Mega Man 9 & DLC

Mega Man 9 & DLC

I was very, very excited when I heard about the upcoming Mega Man game until I heard about the DLC.

Some background if you don't know. The game is designed entirely within 8 bit limitations (well, they claim it is, but I have to assume this is not quite accurate due to the baseline changes in gaming consoles since then....anywho). The game is also designed to be a direct sequal to the original NES series before it was "adulterated" removing random changes which where gimmicky. Personally, I will miss Rush but oh well.

The base game has been announced at 800 points. The DLC is estimated at 160 points per download for the characters and an unknown price for additional game modes. The DLC is all orginal game content as shown in various trailers and press releases, but is being sold separately upon release.

I have been awaiting a real Mega Man game for quite a while now, but I am going to have to reconsider with this death by a thousand needles sales method. I don't understand why they didn't just offer it at 1200 points for the complete game. It would have come off as a bit pricey, but DLC like this is ridiculous.

I agree.  If you want 1200

I agree.  If you want 1200 points for the game just charge that much.  Don't nickle and dime us with stupid DLC that should be in the full game.

Stingyness

Stinks if you ask me, but then so it would too if they'd packed it all in one 1200MSP release.  In the end, I'm more likely to splash out the 800 for the base game. I'd not bother at all at 1200.

1200 points is a bit high,

1200 points is a bit high, but I would have most likley purchased it at that price. Many people still play the NES games and I expect a market for the XBLA release just because of that.

Selling parts of the game chipped off from the base title to nickle and dime I have an issue with. Still don't have Mad Tracks installed because of that crap.

If you announce features and list it in advertising (pre-release) then it is part of the base game. If you are selling it as a separate item then don't mention it before release of the base title. Any mention before that release is just plain misleading.

I don't know... I'm

I don't know...

I'm definately of the "you have to judge each part seperately" camp.  To me the base MegaMan 9 is 100% worth the $10, whether or not their is any DLC, or how much said DLC costs is irrelevent.  Now whether or not I'll be picking up any of the DLC at all is unknown at this time, but I'll certainly be enjoying the base game.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why people are angry about this, but I worry that some people might forgo a game that they would enjoy based on a misguided principle around DLC.

is it me?

lol - I might be forgoing it because I didn't make it past the first ladder in the demo!  I never played the NES originals (just a brief time on a Gameboy version), but hot dang was I struggling.
