Great news for those of you who have never played the Metal Slug series as Metal Slug 3 is hitting marketplace on Wednesday, January 2nd. It's a great way to start off the new year with one of the greatest 2D games ever. Here's the full details from
Gamerscore Blog:
The fourth title in the “Metal Slug” series joins the Xbox LIVE Arcade library as “Metal Slug 3” arrives this Wednesday, January 2 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PST).
An update of the original arcade version, "Metal Slug 3" is a run-and-gun video game updated with HD graphics and now features co-op multiplayer over Xbox LIVE. “Metal Slug 3” provides gamers with various route selections within each stage enabling players to play over and over. Join Marco, Tarma, Eri and Fio, the four veterans in the “Metal Slug” series, as they hit the battlefield to stop General Morden from disturbing the order and peace that has begun to return to the world. Throughout the game, various vehicles called “Slugs” are made available to help players in battle and to complete the mission. The game features co-op gameplay for up to two players over Xbox LIVE. Developed by SNK Playmore, “Metal Slug 3” will be available worldwide for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

This is one I'm gonna pass, although it's a wonderful game, one of the best side scrolling shooters ever.
I played the shit out of it in the arcades and in later compilations. So this one is a pass.

Note to Microsoft: charging a premium for retro games that are available in compilations on other platforms for a far lower cost is not winning you any fans.
I have a friend who enjoys side scrolling shooters in co-op, so for 400 points I'd be pretty tempted. However, as I can get the entire Metal Slug Anthology for the PS2 for the equivalent of 1200 points, I think I'd rather pick up that if I want to play the game.

I'll just buy the PSP anthology for $15 then.
True, we bitch at MS as they seem the default target, although, in fairness, MS are hardly hands-off about the service, though, they seem to control everything with a fairly tight grip. It's hardly an open platform.
Bad SNK Playmore, then, for deciding that XBLA should offer worse value than the PS2 and PSP compilations.

Agreed, cool game, but far too expensive and an unnecessary XBLA release, I already have owned it and sold it on the original Xbox.
What is with these developers, especially the Japs, being incapable or too lazy to make a NEW GAME? This is the future of game distribution, I think there'd be much more take-up, even at a higher price, for a brand new Metal Slug, KOF or Fatal Fury game than the lacklustre ports we've seen so far. It's frustrating because if it doesn't sell, SNK will lose faith in the platform and we may never see such an event, but if it does sell they'll think they can get away with it.

At least it's not as bad as when they released this same game for the first Xbox at $40 or so.
I never played the Metal Slug games, so might have bought it at the time if it had been $20. For half that, this could be worth it. But then again, we're supposedly getting some all new side-scrolling action next week with Omega Five.

Omega Five is a new IP and $10 for a new IP isn't bad at all (assuming it doens't have any hideous bugs of serious lack of content). Heck, it is basically standard for a new XBLA IP.
Personally I am still sitting on over $60 in points and more and more I am considering spending them on (original) XBOX games over recent XBLA titles. : /
Oh, and where is my Warworld?!?
It seems a lot of people are deciding to wait for Omega 5 next week.
I downloaded the trial for Metal Slug 3 and I thought it seemed like quite a lot of fun. So I've placed an order for the PS2 Metal Slug Anthology - online co-op would be the only real advantage to the far pricier XBLA version, and my friend who likes side-scrolling shooters doesn't own an Xbox 360 (or even a PS2), so he'd be coming around to my place anyway.
