N+ Gets An F-
Does anyone actually like this game enough to spend $10 on it? To be brutally honest, I think it's a piece of crap and I'm actually insulted that they want $10 for what feels like a freeware PC game from the 90s. It's not as bad as the Tron games, but then again they are asking twice as much. It probably wouldn't bother me so much except that it's the only game available this week. If there is such a long wait for XBLA games to be released, why just one this week?
Sorry, I promise no more ranting for at least another week. :)
N+ is the best XBLA game yet.
800p is cheap, considering what you get. 450 levels, multiplayer, level editor. There isn't really anything else on Arcade with so much content like N+. If you're think 800 is too much to ask for, then you're just not into N, and would probably not buy it if was cheaper either. It's kind of ridicules to complain about a price on a game you don't even like.
Dirty Whirlwind, did you play the first N?
Just wondering because I think it was a mistake to just put the first couple episodes in the trial. They should have thrown together a few levels from later in the game where things get more interesting rather than just the 10 easiest ones.
N+ is great, but if my only exposure to the game was a few levels where you jump across a row of blocks or climb up one wall, I don't know if I'd care to see what else the game has in store later.
Making the tutorial levels only available in the full version is rather idiotic. How do they expect people to get into the game without some practice? N+ is a rather frustrating game by all accounts anyway.
I can appreciate what the devs have done with N+, but the floaty~ness of the physics is just a bit too much. Any ninja that can float like that should never be dying from smashing into the ground and it also makes the controls feel really loose while jumping, but tight while on the ground...it is just not working for me.
As far as $10, eh I dunno. If it was a download game for a portable system then I would buy it to do a few levels while killing a few minutes here and there. I don't think I could sit down at my TV and just push through the levels. With the difficulty of some of the levels that would just be ridiculously frustrating to me.

True. Knowing nothing about N previously, and only going by the XBLA description, I assumed there would be some Ninja COMBAT, and not just jumping around collecting yellow bricks. Although a couple of posts here make it sound like those are just tutorial levels with later levels offering more in terms of gameplay.
I think I'm just overly grumpy because another week has gone by without Ikaruga. :D
the problem is that N is a free PC game, N+ just has more levels and high res graphics.
It just pisses me off, when developers take a free game and try to sell it without any major improvements (happened with flOw and PixelJunk Monsters for the PSN and N+ now)
Those of you complaining about the first N being free, did you actually play it? Because the people I know who played it (and loved it) aren't complaining. Those are the people who know N+ is worth its price. Just because somebody gives away one game for free to get themselves noticed doesn't mean they can keep developing games without ever asking for money.
If it bothers you that much, you're still welcome to go play N for free. But it's not like they're just repackaging the game for XBLA. They've added versus and co-op multiplayer modes, and created 400+ brand new levels.
The gameplay is still the same because that's what makes it great. That's what makes it worth buying.
The multiplayer is what makes this game worth it if nothing else. I haven't had a chance to purchase it yet (but I did finish the standard campaign in Commanders ), but I certainly will.
I feel sorry for them though, coming out the same day as seven XNA titles cant do wonders for sales.

I don't have anything to add about the trial though, I bought N+ right off without any needs to try it out first. Even if I wouldn't like the game the 800p would somehow seemed like a fair deal anyway, because of all the fun times I had with the original N, good times that didn't cost me a dime.
Besides, the game is coming to the PSP and NDS as well, probably with about the same amount of content for a, presumedly, higher price. It would just not be fair or make any sense if it would have got a lower price.
I played through the demo, and while I cant say its the best game out there, it certainly isnt the worst.
However I do agree that the free flash based games being ported to xbla with a $10 price tag is a little steep for me. I mean, high-res graphics only shine when there's...you know...good graphics to begin with. And N+ doesnt exactly have that "Wow, look at those stunning HD graphics" look to it in the first place.
Its still fun to play though, and I'll most likely purchase it if and when the game hits $5.

Actually, I don't agree there. Nothing about the graphics, but I actually tried to play the game on a SD screen and it was just painful. Some levels actually were quite unplayable, just because some things didn't show up right and that yellow bar at the top was blocking some mines in some of the levels and made it impossible to finish those levels in a first run. Not your point, perhaps, but my advice to people is you may want to upgrade your TV before you purchase N+.
And I still don't understand the dispute about the graphics. I for one certainly don't play XBLA for the graphics. And there isn't really any of those" WOW, stunning HD graphics"-moments up there on XBLA. To catch a cliché, a good game is a good game. Despite the graphics and stuff.
XBLA is filling a very important gap the retail games is missing out on with more unique, innovative and interesting gameplay, pick up and play-style. Sure, there is some pretty basic stuff on there, but with the XNA integration the xbla service is most likely to be an even more awesome ground for the indie scene to stand on. Best to get used to it, because, although there will be some changes, the formula will still be the same.
All the talk about that arcade game should put up the best HD graphics show to be entitle a price of 800 microsoft points is just stupid. If you want to be amazed by stunning graphics you're looking in the wrong directions. Arcade games should be a complement to the retail blockbusters, not competing against each other. And besides, what is a 1/6 price of a retail price tag, anyway? It's safe to say you're going to get at least out 1/6 part of what you would get out of a retail title.
Sorry, for the long post, it's not directly meant for you, more towards the whole gaming society. I think Microsoft is doing a terrific job at bringing forward the independent gaming scene. I never though that the next generation (aka this generation) would come down to the indie people. They're the ones that keeps my interest up. And they're somehow the children of tomorrow. I've been far more impressed by what they can do then I've ever been with Unreal Engine 3. That says a lot, because I'm all over awesome graphics and effects in general.
That has be the conclusion. And really, I'm sorry for the off-topic and the only reason I'll soon press the post button is because I just don't wanna feel that I've lost a couple of minutes for no reason whatsoever.

hate to burst people's bubbles with the whole "HD graphics" for games released originally in Flash. They were originally rendered with (primarilly) vector graphics in progressive rendering for a computer monitor and so started out higher than SDTV quality. Having said that, while anything over SD quality is being considered HD by MS on XBLA that just isn't so. N+ and Alien Hominid are both technically EDTV quality and not HDTV quality. Your HD televisions are internally upsampling the signal.
N+ really wouldn't benefit from anything being progressive scan though, so you aren't missing much. Copmared to AH:HD it seems much sharper due to less details catching your eye as "not quite right".
N+ is the type of game which would shine on portable platforms, but $20+ for the DS and PSP versions is beyond excessive.
I love this game. Single player is fantastic. Multiplayer is fun (especially with friends). The level editor is a nice addition ala Band of Bugs (sorry Little Big Planet you keep getting beat to the punch).
The best part is movies! Get stuck? Check out the leaderboards. It's like being able to watch your opponents hand in a game of poker.
