Undertow DLC coming this Wednesday [UPDATE2]

[UPDATE2] It's now up to the "proper" 400 points, hope some of you were able to get the discount while it was available.

[UPDATE] It seems that the DLC has come out at 200 points. Were still trying to find out if this is a mistake or not, but if I were you I'd pick it up now just in case!

When Undertow became the apology game from Microsoft for their issues over the Holidays, you had to think that with this expanded user base, DLC was almost certain. The only worry that we had was would an expansion of the UE3 based underwater shooter be substantial enough to keep gamers satisfied?

Their was never any need to worry!

Dubbed Path of the Elect the expansion pack adds a new five level campaign that, like all campaigns within the base game, can be played either single player, or with a friend in co-op mode over Xbox Live.

The campaign consists of battling the more technologically advanced and more powerful Elect race in what I'm assuming is a continuation of the core games storyline. As a comparison, the original title's campaign was 15 levels.

While I would probably pay the price of 400 MS points for the campaign alone, where this expansion pack truly shines is in it's multiplayer component. In addition to the campaign, Chair Entertainment is throwing in four new multiplayer maps.

The part of the expansion that may well be the most important though, is that you will be able to play as the Elect. With more powerful weapons, including a laser beam weapon, it will be interesting to see how this plays into a pretty well balanced deathmatch.

This game is such as

This game is such as bad/boring game. I played through the first two levels since the achievements are pretty easy to get, but the boredom I would had to sit through for the rest of the game didn't seem worth it.

Unless the DLC is completely free or completely changes the game, I won't be downloading it.

Interesting. The game is
Interesting. The game is so-so, let's see what this can do.
you guys are nuts, this is

you guys are nuts, this is one of my favorite games on XBLA!

The singleplayer isn't where this game shines, it's the mulitplayer. Being able to play on a weekly basis against the developers certainly doesn't hurt.

Is the elect the race that
Is the elect the race that was introduced at the end of the game? They looked so powerful, I wonder how they will keep the game balanced with such an overpowered race.
I enjoyed playing through
I enjoyed playing through Undertow's campaign in co-op with a friend of mine, but I don't really fancy 400 points for 5 more levels, especially seeing I don't really plan to play versus online.
I played through in coop,
I played through in coop, haven't tried the multiplayer yet. I think I prefer 3D multiplayer vs this 2D battlefield style game.
200Mp

It only cost 200MP. That is kinda cheap. Same price for a theme.

So...

When is the second expansion coming out?

Cuz I want the new race from the first expansion.

i'm going to wait
for the next time Microsoft totally drops the ball (because you know they will) so I can get the expansion for free. The reason this game was the freebie is because the expansion was already in the works when it became obvious that this game was, to play a pun, in the tank. Nobody bought it. So to boost sales for the pending update, they made it free. I played halfway through the game just for the achievements, but the game was boring. I play on a 45 inch LCD, and basically your character on that display is the size of a nickel - the rest is water. boring game and a weak PR effort to make this the big 'sorry our support sucks' offering.
I'm going to have to

I'm going to have to disagree with you there Arcadian, I loved this title. The single player was decent at best I'll admit, but online is where it's at.

Next Tuesday @ 10 EST show up for some games and see what I'm talking about.

The biggest issue with

The biggest issue with Undertow is an inconsistent player base, but all XBLA games seem to suffer in that area.

There have been lots of great games which have gone under the radar because of mediocre games massive media attention. Undertow is one of those games.

As far as the size of the characters they are small, but either you are exaggerating or your TV isn't setup properly. On my 42" the characters are noticably larger than a nickel. I am going to hedge a bet that your TV is taking in a scan line mode higher than it actually renders and is stepping it down. With LCD TVs it is quite common to have them labeled to handle various HD formats and while they can take the input it is not a true output. The difference between a really highend HDTV and a lower end one is rarley the quality of the screen, but the upscaling/downscaling hardware and software.

However, play the game online and there won't be all that empty water to worry about.

Now 400 MS Points

Early risers were treated to the Undertow expansion for half price in what was apparently an error which seems to have now been fixed. Unfortunately, that means the price has been returned to it's normal price of 400 MS Points.

well, I was gonna pay 10.00
well, I was gonna pay 10.00 for this but I got it for free... i'm glad, because I stopped playing after the nemo campaign.
Undertow is a pretty good
Undertow is a pretty good game, hurt primarily by the fact that multiplayer/co-op matches are a bit hard to come by. Of course, that's common across almost all XBLA games a week or so after release.
I raced home to pick this up

I raced home to pick this up (since the game was free, I thought I'd support the developers) but I missed the 200 MSP screw up so I'm not getting it. I know it's only $2.50 more expensive, but that's $2.50 more I could spend on Rock Band DLC or some other XBLA game...

Thanks, but no thanks.

its all cool, Tomacco
Everybody has different tastes - thats why we dont have just one soda on sale. For me, XBLA titles are where I retreat into my quiet corner and play fast and loose casual games (uno, carcassonne, etc) but for real competative online play, when I feel the need for that, I usually pop COD4 into the tray.
Sorry this is a little late

Sorry this is a little late but I've been fighting off a stomach virus for the last couple of days. Anyway, as you may or may not know, I am writing a book. Originally the entire book was aviator sunglasses going to be on gamers and their relationships but, after reading what I had gathered thus far, I decided that I couldn't write an entire book on relationships. So I've decided to take another approach. The new focus of the book maui jim sunglasses will be on the general lives of gamers; who we are, what we do things like that. Relationships will be a couple of chapters but there will others based on political opposition (like good ol' Jack Thompson), how games have matured, stereotypes, women gamers and other things. In the coming versace sunglasses weeks I will be looking for more help with some of the chapters such as personal stories and questions about different topics. I will be updating the forums as well. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to talking to many of you soon!
