"The Maw" coming next week! (1/21/08)

Ah, the benefits of attending my first PAX. I got on a mailing list for "The Maw" and it finally paid off yesterday with an email from the developers.

Here is the email in its entierty:

Hey friends!

Just wanted to let you know that we made some announcements about The Maw today! It's coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade next Wednesday, Jan 21st for only 800 MS Points ($10)! You'll also be able to unlock a free premium theme by playing. We launched an official website today too at www.WhatIsTheMaw.com, where you can get more info and wallpapers and stuff. Check out the full press release below.

Thanks to your votes at PAX, The Maw won the PAX 10 Audience Choice Award. It's also an IGF 2009 Finalist. Next week represents the end of a long and hard road to make the best game we could for your ten dollars. Hope you like it!

Thanks!

The game looks very good,

The game looks very good, graphically. gameplay wise, I'm a little sceptical, but I guess I'll find out tommorow.

OXM gave the game a 7.0, but they liked it so much they said they want a "fully fleshed out $60 sequel."

Hmmm, does that justify a 7.0 to you?

Yeah, that'd be a week from

Yeah, that'd be a week from tomorrow. Unfortunately, My one day at PAX was time-constrained by cicumstance (I'm planning things better this year) so I was only able to see the game being played, not play it myself.

But the concept sounds really interesting, and if they've fleshed out the gameplay just right, It should be really good.

The concept as I remember it... you have a pet Maw that can eat anything, but is scared of almost everything. Kind of a 3D platform/puzzle game.

Hmm, I thought it was coming

Hmm, I thought it was coming tommorow :(

The reason i am skeptical is the camera. The camera in the game is supposed to get kind of bad when the maw gets bigger.

Teamxbox.com gave "The Maw"

Teamxbox.com gave "The Maw" an 8.5 on there review. Saying that the characters sometimes don't interact with the environment the way they should and that hit detection is a little off at times so you will sometimes spend more time fiddling around with the controls rather then enjoying the game. Although they also say, " Roll The Maw’s gameplay, visuals and audio together and you have one very tasty yumyum, not to mention one of the better original IP’s to hit Xbox Live Arcade in awhile."

The Maw is looking like a day one pick up for me, so I can't wait til Wednesday to give the trial game a go and most likely purchasing the full game off of XBL.
