Lazy Raiders comes to XBLA on February 24th

Lazy Raiders from Sarbakan Game Studio Lazy Raiders is an action puzzler where you don't control the character, but the world. You play as an overweight adventurer who can't be bothered to go through Temples and Tombs, so you're going to have to help him. The game plays similar to that of the old tilting ball maze you had as a kid, but it goes far beyond that. And it's got a whole lot of personality and looks great to boot.

Your job is to rotate the catacombs and maneuver the lead character Diggabone past innumerable obstacles to the 16 Lost Relics. Diggabone can survive falling great distances and slamming into walls but he won't live through too many encounters with spikes or boulders. The controls are easy enough: the left stick rotates the game board clockwise or counter-clockwise and the A button instantly flips the maze upside down, allowing you to quickly drop the doctor in his opposite direction. Rotating the world will cause anything that's not nailed down to roll and slide around the room. By doing so you can get Diggabone where he needs to go and also remove some obstacles from play.

Scattered around each maze you'll find gems to collect. Pick up enough and you'll reveal the Idols. You aren't required to grab the Idol in order to proceed to the next stage, though. For this, you merely need to find your way to the Golden Pick Axe. Time is ticking and you are rewarded for finishing quickly, so you'll have to decide whether or not it's worth going for the Idol.

Lazy Raiders makes good use of its unique world-twisting mechanic and presents many creative opportunities to players. Crafty archaeologists will learn how to roll boulders around a maze in order to crush all the spikes and clear their path. At first fire traps seem to be only a nuisance until you realize you can use them to ignite TNT crates and blast open new pathways. There is definitely a learning curve to the game but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to pull off some pretty cool tricks.

Honestly, this is one of the most polished and good looking XBLA games in a while. It's got an attractive cartoon art style with bold colors and the good doctor's animations are fluid. Lazy Raiders also supports your Xbox Live Avatar so you can replace Diggabone with your likeness.

The leaderboards will allow you to compare your score for each level with other Raiders around the world. The game features 80 levels and over 16 relics to find, but it’s a single-player game, though, so you're on your going to have to make a go of it on your own in the catacombs.
