Gameplayer has a new feature entitled "
The Next Small Thing", which looks into the future of the "small" games category. The majority of the feature revolved around interviews of Greg Canessa of Pop Cap games and Joshua Glazer of Naked Sky Entertainment. This is particularly interesting
considering Canessa's former position, and the insight it can give us into the reasoning behind the decision.
Greg Canessa, PopCap Games’ Vice President of Emerging Platforms, largely attributes the popularity of compact games to a shift in audience demographics or, more precisely, to the emergence of casual gamers. According to the company’s research, casual gamers place greater value on stress relief and metal exercise than on grinding though the ‘do-or-die’ challenges favoured by the hardcore. Casual gamers want “…to jump in and play the game without having to read a book on how to play,” Canessa says.
Maybe it is. Soltrio Solitaire is rated, but still somewhat secret. If not for the hints you guys found a few weeks ago, we'd probably have no idea what it was (except that it's solitaire, obviously).
And there's also Aegis Wing, which has been so silent that I keep wondering if the ESRB rated it by mistake or if it's the old title for a game we know by another name.
Maybe it's the board game pack. Now too exciting, but certainly should have a broad appeal.

I don't like waiting to hear about something that may or may not exist, so I'm just going to assume it's the board games. Those are surely exciting to a lot of people.

Am I right in saying that E3 used to take place every May? I know its not the same this year, but as far as I know MS will have a press conference same as usual at the new E3. Last year it was Doom. It's gotta be adleast as big as that (Quake III Arena, Duke Nukem??). Another point. On that podcast, the guy said he hoped to post it on Tuesday, if not it means the title is getting pushed back to June. Can't believe he was talking about Soliatire or board games. Hope not anyway.
