LunarDuality is a Pac Man CE God
I just purchased this game last night after everyone was raving about it even major sites like 1up.com and Penny Arcade. The first thing I did was check the leader boards and noticed that Lunar is in the top 100 for every single gametype and in the top 10 for some even? That's craziness! I'm very impressed. Is anyone else really good at the game? I think I noticed that Klutch was pretty high too.
Haha. Thanks! I am so ridiculously addicted to that game. If you want my advice for good scores...go for the fruit! You end up finishing a lot stronger if you've advanced through a TON of levels. And the fruit near the end is worth a lot of points.
I have on #6 in the world...or did, haven't checked in a little while. I see DanielShawn up near the top of all the leaderboards too. He is a CRAZY good Outpost Kaloki X player. He's posted some sweet video walkthroughs of levels and stuff.
The only thing that upsets me about the game...is that it apparently killed my FOURTH 360 last night!!!! DAMN YOU TORU IWATANI!!!!!
I'm hoping this time I can avoid getting another refurb and get a new console finally. And I was pumped to play Prince of Persia tomorrow too!
I've tried a few times to just race through the pellets, especially since you often have a straight path you can follow through all the dots and fruit. But I keep getting distracted and end up chasing down ghosts anyway.
At some point it has to be good to go for ghosts, though, right? Like one of the modes (challeng 2?) that starts off with 8-10 power pellets on the screen and you can get over 100k in the first minute if you chain them all together.
Yeah, Measure and I had a bit of a battle going...and that was the initial inspiration to go for these high scores!
As for going for the ghosts: Yes, there is usually an optimal time to chain ghosts once or twice in the sequence of levels (because they eventually repeat if you clear enough levels). So, yeah, when you see 8 power pellets (like McLean 78 says) you should focus on getting all four ghosts for each pellet and get tons and tons of points! But then, right back to the dots and ignore the ghosts for a while!
Okay, that fruit strategy really works well, thanks Lunar! I blew away my old scores in a few modes, and I broke into the top 100 in Extra 2 or Extra 3.
Am I correct in saying that your speed increase is determined by how much fruit you eat, rather than time or any other factors? The game seems to move a lot faster this way, and that would be another big factor to make focusing on fruit a better tactic.
I have to add that I tried it too yesterday on Extra Mode 2 (?) and I also blew away my old score. I didn't even break 200k before, but now I can do 300k. I would stray for ghosts only when there were four of them really close to each other and especially if I could chain 4 in a row twice.

Someone asked about how the game speeds up... on the hints screens, it says the more you score, the faster the game gets. That's why I believe one key is eating a long chain of ghosts right at the start, to get things moving good.
Anytime you die, the game slows down a bit, so... don't die.
Yes...yes, now you are a Pac-Man CE god. Good job beating my score. You're kickin' me while I'm down though since my 360 went all red ring on me this week.
But rest assured I'll try my best to catch up to you. Well, until I get sucked into Prince of Persia. Or if Band of Bugs comes out finally. Or...who am I kidding...how will I be able to compete?!?
