Who won E3? XBLA or PSN?

GameSetWatch has created an indepth opinion analysis of the results of E3 from the eyes of the downloadable fan. Skipping ahead to ruin the piece for you GameSetWatch feels that XBLA while it had the most titles didn't necessarily have the more interesting titles. Can you blame them though? In terms of the lack of "major" new titles being announced for the system at E3, everyone will probably point to titles like Everyday Shooter and Elefunk on Playstation Network over titles like Marathon and Poker Smash on Xbox Live Arcade. Take away the fact that we're fanboys, who would you say won the E3 downloadable war?

I was really into the two

I was really into the two PSN titles that I listed above. I actually have really wanted to play everday shooter since the 1up show showing of it a few months back.

However, looking at the titles that would be considered "new" to your average joe... I'ld have to give it to XBLA. Nothing can beat E4, Undertow, WarWorld, SWOS, Switchball, and Pokersmash in my eyes.

E3 sucked, there are no

E3 sucked, there are no winners.

Unless you're counting people who really, really like monkeyball-inspired gameplay, such as myself. Two more monkeyball clones by the end of the year? On the XBLA? sweetness.

I think XBLA won the sheer

I think XBLA won the sheer numbers game without a doubt, but games like Echchrome and PAIN are enviable for the PSN to have. I'm seriously considering buying a PS3 just because of some (specifically LittleBigPlanet and the above mentioned EchoChrome) of their games coming out (which is what quite a few XBLA games did to cause me to pick up my 360).

I think one benefit that the PSN has over XBLA is that despite the increase in game size that XBLA had recently, it's still paled in comparison to PSN's limit. This allows certain games like Warhawk and LittleBigPlanet to look really good and have a lot more content to them.

I think strictly from an E3 prespective Sony won simply because they took time to specifically point out games to show off (like EchoChrome) and went fairly in-depth to hype certain ones up (did I forget to mention Echochrome at any point in this post yet?), while MS did a montage focusing on a game for 2 seconds a piece, some sales figures, SEGA games announcements and moved right on with the Halo/Assassin's Creed/Rock Band/Call of Duty/Resident Evil/Games for Windows/Gears PC/Scene It! hype train. Their XBLA bit was basically a press release in video form, while Sony stepped up in a big way (granted, I had always thought of PSN as a joke for the most part up until this point), in my opinion.

With that said, I still love my XBL Arcade, but MS just didn't seem all that interested in promoting it at E3 this year.

Overall XBLA, but that isn't

Overall XBLA, but that isn't to say some of the PSN didn't look very appealing. While PSN had two really amazing looking titles and nothing else. XBLA has two or three really nice looking titles, a few more good retro titles and then not much else.

Overall it wasn't as impressive an E3 as in the past, but hopefully that is just because this year focused on games released in the short term unlike previous years which focused a year or more out.

I pretty much agree with

I pretty much agree with GameSetWatch's assessment. XBLA has a long lineup of solid titles on the way. But PSN was the one to show off the real bold, brilliant, artistic games like Everyday Shooter and Echochrome.

Of course, there were very few XBLA surprises for people who follow it as closely as we do, so that kinda slants the comparison.

Either way, I swear, PSN games are going to get me to buy a PS3 before retail games.

GameSetWatch pretty much

GameSetWatch pretty much nailed it.

Also, that PSN game PAIN is really growing on me. When I first heard of it I thought it was a horrible idea, but having watched a whole mess of gameplay videos for it, it's something I really want to play.

I think Microsoft should

I think Microsoft should take notice of what Sony's doing, and start funding some innovative and interesting stuff - actually, both on XBLA and retail. I mean, where's Microsoft's answer to, say, Shadow of the Colossus? That just seems like a project they'd never put any money on. They seem to be more about the blockbuster-titles.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. I may have the wrong picture, et.c. But for me, it's becoming increasingly likely that my 360 will have to share the living room with a PS3 at some point in the future, and I was sort of hoping to get away with buying just one console in this generation... :)

I think PSN had the better

I think PSN had the better showing at E3 because they showed us something new and exciting. You guys are so good at digging up XBLA information that we already knew about everything that was shown at E3.

XBLA definitely seems to have more good looking titles coming than PSN, but I get the sense that Sony is taking PSN more seriously as an outlet for indie games. MS certainly didn't have anything like Echochrome to show.

Heh, it strikes me that this

Heh, it strikes me that this discussion has been far too balanced so far. We're fanboys, dammit! Sony SUX!!! :)

But on the other hand, Echochrome looks amazing.... http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=79912

Zeewolf says: "We're fanboys, dammit! Sony SUX!!! :)"

While this is true... At least in the U.S., MS has already won the battle against Sony. I'm thinking that takes away a lot of the need to scream about how much they suck. Apparently, most Americans already agree.
