Price Drops: Frogger, Bankshot Billiards 2, Hardwood Spades

Apparently their Labor Day sale was a success because Microsoft is lowering the price of three more arcade games. And this time the sale lasts a whole week.

The rundown: Bankshot Billiards 2 goes from 1200MSP to 900MSP, Frogger from 400MSP to 300MSP, and Hardwood Spades also drops from 400MSP to 300MSP.

Get 'em while they're hot though because the sale only runs from "12:00 a.m. GMT on Wednesday, September 26 (5:00 p.m. PDT on Thursday, September 27) and continuing through 11: 59 p.m. GMT (4:59 p.m. PDT) on Tuesday, October 2."

Timezones confuse me so I just quoted them.

Also available this Wednesday is the Bomberman Live! Bomb-Up Pack 2, featuring Destructoid's fearless mascot.

Could this mean that we're not getting a fresh new game this week? I wouldn't blame any publisher from shying away from releasing this week for obvious reasons but we need XBLA games to break up the marathon multiplayer sessions.

Who's buyin'?

Press Release after the break.

More is More: Soltrio Solitaire Gets More

I have no more words. Soltrio Solitaire now has a Game Pack 8. Anyone wanna start a pool on how high they will go?

No details up yet on Soltrio.com. Therefore, I give you the xbox.com forums which tells us that the pack includes:

Funnel Web, Plait, Rank & File, Scorpion Easy, Scorpion, Scorpio, Spider 2 Suits, Spider 4 Suits, Spike, and Thumb & Pouch

Previous packs covered here.

Soltrio Strikes Again

Just in case you missed it a couple of days ago -- Buried amongst a giant sized marketplace update at Major Nelson's blog was word that yet another game pack for Soltrio Solitaire. I swear Silver Creek is just toying with me at this point.

Game Pack 7 adds the following gametypes:

  • Canfield Easy
  • Canfield
  • Klondike 2 Deck Easy
  • Klondike 2 Deck
  • Klondike 3 Deck
  • Superior Canfield
  • Xray Klondike
  • Yukon-Rigel's
  • Yukon-Two Decks
  • Yukon
  • The total number of games you can play in Soltrio Solitaire now stands at 87 and the total cost for owning the entire set is 1850MSP (~$23.13).

Which do you all prefer: The more pricey but a la carte Solitaire Soltrio method or the all in one (thus filled with games you won't play) but slightly cheaper (100+ games for $19.95) Hardwood Solitaire method?

The list of what is contained in each and every Game Pack is (as always) here.

Flush with Content: This Wednesday's Haul

I feel a little guilty. Here I am posting with vitriol about how this week's Wednesday was the first in recent memory to cheat us out of an XBLA two-fer. And then, the day arrived and we were overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of all the new content. What content, you say? Why, let me tell you!

Lots of Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace Content

Major Nelson has posted the lastest list of marketplace content and it definately is a bountiful harvest today for XBLArcaders. Content, pictures and themes are available for 3D Ultra Minigolf (content), Alien Hominid (content, pictures), Band of Bugs (content), Mad Tracks (content, theme), and Soltrio Solitaire (content).

Marketplace users in Japan will be able to finally pick up a copy of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on their native Marketplace.

Full details of this content is available on Major Nelson's website.

Silent Assassin: Soltrio Solitaire DLC Strikes Again

Apparently it wasn't sneaky enough to do it once, so the Silver Creek assassin came back to strike again. The victim is the same (your digital wallet) but the cause of death is slightly different (10 more new solitaire modes for 150 MSP). I'll bet until you saw this picture you didn't know the silent assassin was a busty brunette either.

Solitaire Soltrio Game Pack 2 arrived today (under cover of darkness) and includes the following new solitaire modes:

  • Bristol
  • Down Under
  • Easthaven 2 Deck
  • Easthaven 3 Deck
  • Giant
  • Golf Easy
  • Golf (a personal favorite)
  • Little Milligan
  • Pauline
  • Westcliff
  • Based on the list of modes for their PC version (titled Hardwood Solitaire...where have I heard the title Hardwood before? Hmm.) Silver Creek can still add a ton more modes in this a la carte style. I have to say I like that. Choice is important since it's unlikely that I would enjoy and play 100+ different forms of solitaire. Just sayin'.

Soltrio Solitaire DLC Slips Silently Onto Marketplace

Without even so much as an announcement on Major Nelson's blog, Soltrio Solitaire has gained some DLC.

"Game Pack 1" adds the following 10 game modes to the original 18:

    • Clock
    • Compass Easy
    • Compass
    • Lady of the Manor
    • Miss Milligan
    • Russian Solitaire
    • Sir Tommy
    • Storehouse
    • Whitehead
    • Yin & Yang

The Pack clocks in at a small 300kb and will set you back 150 MS Points. Adding over 50% more content and charging only 19% of the game's original cost seems like a pretty sweet deal. Anyone gonna bite?

    Soltrio Solitaire Next Wednesday

The latest from the Hardwood series creators will be available on the Arcade next week. This comes as a surprise considering, usually Gamerscore Blog has us wait until Monday(ish) for information on the release. Soltrio Solitaire will make use of tons of different variants of solitaire in addition to multiplayer variants. Considering the last card game that was released was Uno, this is a long overdue genre addition. For more information about the game head to our Soltrio Solitaire image gallery or read the full post for the press release.

    Dropped Hints about Soltrio Solitaire

It looks like the 360 community overlooked a clever hint weeks ago by Silver Creek about what exactly Soltrio Solitaire actually is. On their official boards, Silver Creek staffer Jonas made a post that looks to pretty obviously point to the features of Soltrio Solitaire.
What would rock is if you could play Solitaire right on your TV where I wouldn't even have to get my butt of the [sic] coutch.

And then I could like go on some solitaire game adventure, play [sic] regurlar solitaire or yeah, like play solitaire head to head. I'm sure I could at least beat Gromph at a solitaire duel.

Lets see, that would be like 3 solitaire games in one. A trio of solitaire.
If you want to take a look at other obvious hints, read this post by "Soltrio". Oh, how blind we are.

[Update: There is a phone code at the bottom of the post that says "7658746 47 266464", which is "Soltrio is coming". Texting fans will see that as an obvious puzzle.]

    Where is Hardwood Solitaire?!?

[Update: There is an official site for Soltrio Solitaire available on the internet. Currently, it is just a splash screen, but XBLArcade.com will let you know when it rolls into a full site. From the splash screen, it appears that this is a new style of game from Silver Creek and is a departure from the Hardwood series.]

Back in the days of Xbox Live Arcade on the original Xbox, Silver Creek Entertainment released a game called Hardwood Solitaire. It was the only Hardwood game released for the original Xbox; however, closely following the release of the Xbox 360 Silver Creek Entertainment released Hardwood Backgammon (I recommend this game a lot), Hardwood Hearts and Hardwood Spades. Some fans wondered why Hardwood Solitaire was not ported over to the Xbox 360. The answer actually came to us almost two months ago when Soltrio Solitaire popped up on the USK website, but we didn't actually realize it. Fast forward to today and the ESRB website lists Silver Creek Entertainment as the developers of Soltrio Solitaire. This definately gives us an idea of what possibly we might be seeing in terms of feature set for this game.
