Contests

Name That Car Contest Winners (Finally!)

It took a bit longer than expected to nail down the winners for our contest to name two cars that will be featured in Things On Wheels, but we finally have the results straight from the decision makers at Load Inc.

If you see your name below check your email (especially the junk mail folder) for some further information.  If you don't see your name below thanks for participating.  We here at XBLArcade and the folks at Load Inc. had fun checking out everyone's ideas.

Without further ado:

1OrangeCar The Orange Car will now be named "Buster" thanks to Travellinman.
1WhiteCar And the White Car has been dubbed "Oscar" thanks to Wimjet.

A big thanks to Rob at Sandbox Strategies for helping us set up this killer opportunity and Load Inc. for offering up such a cool prize.

Reminder: Last Day To Win XBLA Fame

ToWLogo The contest to name those sadly nameless cars for Load's upcoming Things on Wheels ends today.  So, get off your duff, follow the link above, and get naming!

Things On Wheels Contest: Name These Cars!

CarSad Once in a while we here at XBLArcade get a chance to get freebies in the hands of our loyal readers.  Sometimes it's a free game code, maybe a t-shirt, but nothing previous comes close to the pure genius that is this contest.

It's very simple.  Things On Wheels (Load Inc.'s upcoming art deco RC racing game) has two unfortunate, neglected, and completely nameless cars in its roster.  That kind of disrespectful treatment will not be allowed on our watch.  Just look at this one -- it's crying, poor thing.

Therefore we task you, faithful reader, with giving us the best names you can muster.  Let them be clever or shocking or silly or brilliant, just put them in the comments below and let us all bask in your brain's massive power.

Load will choose two winners by the end of next week and not only will the each winner's amazing car name be featured in Things On Wheels, but also his/her actual human name will appear (credits-style), launching each of them into XBLA history.

Pictures are after the break.  Ready...set...go!

Delayed Reaction Boy Says "Contest Over!"

Yeah, so I'm a bit slow. Sorry. The winner of the Dishwasher T-shirt is (drumroll, drumroll, drumroll) MightyHealthy.

He recommends gore lovers check out Day of the Dead, and to be more precise, the ending. Now if we could just get him to add an avatar image...

If you didn't win, don't fret. I'll give you another shot at something remarkably similar in the future. Keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks again to James Silva of Ska Studios!

Contest: Win "The Dishwasher" T-shirt

DishwasherBackDetail1 As promised, I present to you the chance to win your very own T-shirt sporting the devilish looking young lad from Ska Studios The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai.

To be perfectly honest, I'm a little sad doing this contest because I actually want to keep this t-shirt for myself. But alas, our faithful XBLArcade readers have needs too and the right thing to do is to share the love. So, you guys better show me you're worth it.

Therefore, to enter, make a comment on this post and tell me your favorite (or least favorite) gore moment from a game, tv show, movie, whatever. I will select a winner early next week.

A huge thanks goes out to James Silva, the twisted mind behind the game, for giving us the opportunity to give back to our audience.

Below I have included shots of the front and back including detail shots of the amazing graphics. The shirt is a large, black, short-sleeved t-shirt.

Undertow Contest Winners

There will be two more people able to join the fun tonight at 10 with the fine folks at Chair tonight thanks to Chair's generosity and my skills with a random number generator (Tri-county champion, in fact). The lucky two are:

pacmanness and polkeroo

Congrats to those two and thanks to everyone that entered. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about everyone's watery favorites.

And of course, thanks to Chair Entertainment Group for helping us share the XBLA love.

I've got another contest cooking so keep your eyes peeled.

IGF Finalists Announced: Axiom Overdrive Poised For Win?

The Independent Games Festival Competition has announced their finalists for 2008. Among the the joyous few is Reflexive Entertainment and their latest XBLA title Axiom Overdrive. Their game has been nominated in the Technical Excellence category amongst four others, two of them with the word "goo" in the title. Tough competition I'm sure.

You may (or may not) remember that IGF is how I originally discovered Axiom Overdrive, so it's only fitting that the game should continue it's ride toward IGF success. Best of luck to Refexive and the Axiom team!

Of course, the rest of the nominees can be found here. Let me just call attention to the list now and ask that all those making portfolio decisions for Xbox Live Arcade (you know who you are) take time to really look at these finalists. I don't want another Everyday Shooter slipping through the cracks. That is all.

[via IGF, thanks to Tony "Twitch" Barnes for the tip.]

Free Diving Lessons: Wanna Win Undertow? [Update 2]

Chair Entertainment, that team of bold IP creationists behind Undertow, have been kind enough to present us with an opportunity to provide you, the XBLArcade faithful, more free stuff.

Perhaps you tried Undertow. Perhaps you liked it, but you were still on the fence. Perhaps you just need a push in the right direction. How about get your Undertow diving license for free? Sound like a plan? Good.

You know the drill, comment below for a chance to win one of two Undertow codes. But here's the twist: In your comment include the title of your favorite water (or underwater) themed story. It could be a movie, or a book, or something from the outer reaches of your mind.

Just remember, if you don't win you will just have to acquire it the old fashioned way: begging for points cards for the holidays.

(This contest is for North America only at this time as I'm not sure of the validity of the codes in other countries. If I find out they're good anywhere, I'll open it up to all. Also, one comment per person -- cheaters will be disqualified.)

[Update] I forgot (silly me) to say, you can only win one XBLArcade contest every 3 months. Sorry, bajingo. (-_-)

[Update 2] It's space cadet central over here -- contest ends 8PM Eastern on Monday. So, we'll announce the winners soon after that.
