According to the Gamerscoreblog, Xbox Live Arcade this week won't see any new release (*sad panda face*), instead we'll be treated to 2 new titles being added to the Xbox Live Arcade Hits program, namely Assault Heroes and Doom.

• “Assault Heroes” (Sierra Online). Become the only surviving member of an elite special forces unit searching for a secret underground lab. Play the mission alone or fight side-by-side with a friend in the two-player cooperative mode. The winner of IGN’s Xbox LIVE Arcade game of the year for 2006.
• “DOOM” (id Software). Originally released in 1993, “DOOM” introduced millions to the white-knuckle excitement of the first-person shooter (FPS). Relive the classic demon-blasting action with up to four players over Xbox LIVE*, complete with 5.1 surround sound and smoother graphics.

Both of these titles will be available from now on for 400 Microsoft Points.

Quakecon is running this week as many of you readers know, and you may also remember a rumor that XBLArcade.com reported on nearly four months ago... Quake III Arena. Throw that game out of the rumor bin as Kotaku has just confirmed that Pi Studios is working on the port of Quake III Arena to Xbox Live Arcade. This comes hot off the heals of Id announcing the title for DS at last weeks ComicCon. Quake certainly has been overshadowed lately by newer better FPS series, so this may be the first in a large push to help out the upcoming Quake Wars, which looks spectacular. Many of you may be wondering how such a fast paced game will work on a controller, but just recall that the Dreamcast game played rather well online scoring a GameRankings of 92%. As being one of the many, who played this game on the Dreamcast and the PC, you will be very pleased.

It seems like we'll be seeing more Id titles in the future for the XBLA service. According to an e-mail received by Firing Squad, id's CEO Todd Hollenshead had the following to say

From what MS tells us, its been fantastic so far, which bodes well for other id "classics" to be released there. But there's nothing concrete. Making the surprise announcement at X06 for DOOM worked out great, so I'll be tight lipped about anything specific for now :)

Considering how DOOM topped this weeks top 10 XBLA titles, I'd say chances are pretty good. The second bit that he brings up is that of when the title got announced; What would you prefer, a specific in advance release date, or to be surprised?

At Microsoft's X06 Conference in "Barcelona" they confirmed that the "previously unannounced major franchise" that was being released today is DOOM.

The XBLA version includes upgraded resolution, 5.1 support, 4 player split-screen, both local and online 4 player co-op as well as Death match. Unfortunately it doesn't support WS (although it does allow you to stretch the screen).
