Coming Soon to the Arcade

Xbox.com has removed Frogger (Summer 2006) from the “recent addition” under Xbox Live Arcade today… and put it under a new category, “Coming soon to the Arcade“. Along with 4 other Xbox Live Arcade games - Cloning Clyde (Summer 2006), Texas Hold ‘Em Poker (TBD), Lumines Live (July 2006), and Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting (Summer 2006).

Who knows what to think? What to believe?

Street Fighter II - Gets A Release Date?

… For the 8th time? This time, Xbox Australia points towards a July 30th release. While it is rare that any Arcade game gets a specific release date other than “the end of April” or “sometime this year”, especially Street Fighter II, believe it when you see it folks.

If the release date is correct, which we doubt it is.. could you at least ‘throw us a bone’, Microsoft? Where are the other Arcade games?

Also, since when did any marketplace content release on a Sunday? I think it’s just a ’safe’ way of saying ’sometime in July’.

UPDATE: It looks like that date for Street Fighter II has changed on Xbox Australia, to an incredibly vague “2006″. .. We liked the “July 30″ a bit more.

Street Fighter II - So Close You Can Smell It

Xbox.com has finally added a new game to the forums, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting. So now we can stop our Street Fighter II conversations on the “Astropop” or “Uno” boards (I’m guilty). With the forum finally appearing, and the recently released Marketplace content for Street Fighter II, I have a feeling that it’s close to its long - awaited release… real close… I hope.

Sonic, BOOM!

SFII preview up at Gamespot

There’s a decent, 3 page, preview up at gamespot. For all you achievements junkies out there it does describe them all, although doesn’t state the point values. Here’s a summary:

Based on what we saw of the work-in-progress game, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting is looking solid. The offline game is looking good and the online experience, though there’s still work to be done, has potential that it’s close to realizing. As it stands right now, what we’ve played could pass for “good enough,” but we’re hoping that Capcom will be able to do the work needed to get it to be better. Though there’s still no word on exactly when the game is releasing or how much it will cost, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting is still expected to ship in Q2 2006.

Video of Street Fighter II surfaces

It seems that the guys from XboxZone.com.au have posted a video of the Street Fighter II presentation made last week in Australia. The link to it is here. If you listen carefully the presenter talks about how it’s going to be one of the next three games to be released (We can only guess as to what the others will be, but my guess is two of Uno, Texas Hold’em, and Cloning Clyde). Not the best of quality recordings, but does show us what to expect.

UPDATE: there’s also a video of the Cloning Clyde presentation here (Thanks qwerty)

Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting page up on XBox.com

So it seems that MS has finally decided to update there list of XBLA games to include Street Fighter. Currently it’s completely devoid of any information, but at least it’s another step on the (long) road to it’s release.

Interestingly enough, no other game was added, not even Uno

Street Fighter dated and priced

According to VGM, they have found out that Street Figher II Hyper Fighting should be out by the end of April. Also, it should be priced at 800-1200 points. Considering the hype for this game, most people will be happy with the price with even at the high point it’s with Bankshot Billiards and MBU.

Street Fighter still on track? Uno XBLA bound?

According to this quote found on Eurogamer

It also reiterated that Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Uno and Texas Hold ‘Em Poker will be out on Xbox Live Arcade - given the “this is our spring line-up ZOMG” style of the press release, presumably quite soon.

Microsoft has let a couple cats out of the bag. First it seems that earlier rumors were incorrect about a delay for Street Fighter and also, a version of Uno is on it’s way. While who is creating Uno is unannounced, a good bet would be Silver Creek Entertainment, makers of the Hardwood Series.

Street Fighter 2 fighting a loosing battle?

While we don’t normally post rumors here, this one (although packed in with a bit of crazy) seems to have a bit of logic behind it. It seems that someone from Microsoft e-mailed Kotaku with information claiming that they are having a hell of a time getting Street Fighter 2 even playable online. While I’m sure many people far smarter than me are working on it, I could see how this game, possible more than any other, needs to be in perfect synch.

Also, if for some reason they can’t work this out, what does that mean for Mortal Kombat?

More info as it comes in…
