MS reveals partial 2006 release list
Buried at the bottom of the Atari press release (and then expanded upon on Major Nelson's 200th blogcast), was a partial release list of what we will be seeing before the end of the year. The list is not the complete list of what's going to be released. The games (in no particular order) is:
- Small Arms (Gastronaut Studios) – an indie-developed original title designed specifically for Xbox Live Arcade, featuring frantic multiplayer brawling combined with action and precision shooting.
- Novadrome (Buena Vista Games) – originally developed futuristic racing on Xbox Live Arcade.
- Assault Heroes (Wanako/Vivendi Games) – blast waves of formidable foes in this originally developed top-down shooter, single player or two player co-op action.
- Heavy Weapon (PopCap Games) – experience this irreverent, original side-scrolling action game that supports up to 4 players simultaneously.
- Defender (Midway) – space combat classic updated for this generation.
- Contra (Konami) – the seminal side-scrolling shooter that started it all will be launching on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, November 8 at 0800 GMT
Sure, they call it a partial

Sure, they call it a partial list. But the way things have gone so far for XBLA games without a specific release date, I'd say we'll be lucky if we see all 6 of these this year.
Anyways, I'm very excited about Assault Heroes, Small Arms, and Heavy Weapon. Maybe Novadrome and Contra too.
I guess even if Mutant Storm Empire and Roboblitz don't make it out this year, that's still a strong lineup for the next 2 months.
re: will we see them all
While I agree that I'm not going to hold my breath that all 6 of these make it out this year, I'm still holding out hope that they have some big suprise game that'll come out to counter all the Virtual Console, Sony thing news that will surround their release.
Yes, they need Mutant Storm
Yes, they need Mutant Storm Empire to counter Blast Factor! :) And a bunch of retro junk to counter Virtual Console.
Actually McLean
In the blogcast Greg says these are only the games they know for a fact will make it out by Dec 31st, so they all should be coming. That's < 2 months, all of these games have to be in testing now.
counter? mutant storm empire
counter? mutant storm empire looks better than blast factor hehe blast factor looks like a direct mutant storm reloaded rip off
