Rumor Roundup

With the summer now fully upon us, we had to dig even deeper than normal to bring you these rumors.

The XBLA version of Texas Hold'em may include a "tells" system.

Rumor: The version of Texas Hold'em coming to XBLA is being developed by Carbonated Games (a MS subsidiary) and will have more than a few things in common with the Bicycle version they just released on MSN Gaming Zone, including the "tells" system.

Our Take: We asked MS to comment and they wouldn't even confirm that it's Carbonated that are developing it. That said, I'd say it's a pretty good guess that it'd be them since Texas Hold'em> is a first party game and what would be the point of having two divisions making different versions of the same game? Add to that how much everyone has loved how Uno turned out, it just makes sense for CG to be developing it.

As for the "Tells" system, it sounds like a great idea, and if CG is developing it, you'd have to guess that the game is going to be running on the same basic framework (although it does look different from the screenshots we've seen so far), so it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that they'd share this feature.

A third Pompom game might be making it's way to XBLA

Rumor: Bliss Island will be the third XBLA game developed by Pompom Software.

Our Take: This one seems to make sense, after the success Pompom has experienced with Mutant Storm Reloaded and the upcoming Mutant Storm Empire on Xbox Live Arcade, you would imagine that they'd be pretty happy with XBLA. Add to this that the official site has three other locations stating "Coming Soon" (one of which is known to be the PSP) and you've got a pretty decent argument that we'll be seeing it at some point in the future.

Rumor Roundup

This weeks Rumor Roundup will be a little bit different than the other's as I'm going to comment on the pricing/release date leak first.

360 Gamer leaked a whack of release dates and prices for xbla titles

Rumor: Read all about it here.

Our take: Well along with my comments from before about the matter, I'd just like to add two things:

1) Print Magazines often have to have there magazines completely finished sometimes months before they hit the news stands. Looking at this list, it very well could have been Microsoft's Plan from a month or two ago (ie before the full understanding of the Street Fighter net-code issues were known)

2) When the scan was presented to Steve Taylor over at the Ninja Bee forums, his response was: "I think June/July are both possible at this point". Not exactly what I would call a ringing endorsement for the list being more than a best guess.

Rare will be bringing Jetpac to XBLA

Rumor:Many different sites are listing "inside" sources as saying Jetpac will be Rare's first title to reach XBLA.

Our take: It looks like Xbox Evolved was the first to list "inside" sources followed a couple days later by Eurogamer. The funny part of this story, is that if I didn't know better, I'd say the inside source told us all about a month earlier about this story here:

Dear Scribes,
You know what you guys made me realize? Right, I thought you guys were pretty sweet back when I first played Battletoads. That game rocked. And, you know, toads, nay, toads who can punch things in succession with other things; that always has potential to rock the Casbah, perhaps Casbahs. But it was only Xbox Threesiddy time, when booting up one of the machines with PDZ in the drive, did I realize my love for you (not sexually, well not right now, at least) transcends the very time I knew of your work.

Leaked XBLA prices/dates??

While it does seem odd that there isn't even any mention of what magazine it's from, and the layout of the scan seems a bit suspect, it looks like Club Skill Lite may have found a huge amount of upcoming details.

Along with a slew of retail title info, there's the following prices/release time frames for XBLA titles:

  • Street fighter - June - 400
  • Cloning Clyde - July - 800
  • Frogger - Aug/Sept - 400
  • Lumines Live - Aug/Sept - 1200
  • Roboblitz - Aug/Sept - 800
  • Pacman - Aug/Sept - 400

While were not saying this list isn't real, the fact that Pacman is the last listed, and the complete absence of Galaga (both of which are available on the debug XBLA) make us very suspicious.

Here's the link

UPDATE: Our astute readers have pointed out that the magazine in question is 360 Gamer, UK Magazine. Also, it the price of Roboblitz listed seems to go against the price given by the CTO of naked sky

Rumor Roundup

Well this week we only have one Rumor, and it's a bit of an old one, but it's a pretty good one none the less.

Introversion is going to be bringing the award winning Darwinia to XBLA.

Rumor: There have been many bits of info over the last couple of weeks about this, but the big ones started with Introversion being listed as one of the Independent developers working on XBLA titles at Microsoft's E3 Keynote. The biggest hint though was when Mark Morris started talking about how they were going to talk to Microsoft about bringing it to XBLA in this clip on SpikeTV.

Our Take: So you have Introversion going up to Microsoft asking them if they could bring the Independent Game of the Year winner to there system where they are trying to get great indie games...What do you think the answer was?

Marathon to XBLA?

Frankie, of bungie.net, was at his foggy best in this weeks update, with the following quote:

Spenser asks,

Marathon and XBLA: is it at all possible?

Of course it's possible, it's just not on any current agenda. If it's any consolation, many, many people think it's a good idea.

Rumor Roundup

Well now that E3 is done and people are more likely to have loose lips, we're starting Rumor Roundup again, with two more rumor's this week (well three if you include the FF one). Anyways, here goes...

Microsoft will be releasing a compilation of XBLA games for offline users

Rumor: When this page was seen proclaiming the upcoming "Arcade Unplugged" the rumor started that with a name like that it couldn't be anything but a XBLA compilation disk.

Our Take: When you start to think that 57% of Xbox owners are on live you start to think that there are 43% who cannot enjoy the phenomenon that is Geometry Wars (or any other XBLA title for that matter). With that in mind, you know it's just a matter of time before MS releases something. Now the question is, will it be called Arcade Unplugged, and will it come out on Oct. 2nd? I guess only time will tell.

The Xbox Camera will be $40 and come with an XBLA game

Rumor: Joystiq speculated with this post that, along with a bunch of other prices:

Xbox Live Vision Camera (with headset, one month of Live Gold, and one arcade -- presumably Xbox Live Arcade -- game): $40

Our Take: this seems to make sense, and MS has had a history of bundling xbla games with certain products (Bankshot anyone?). As for what game will be bundled, if I had to guess, I'd say there's a good chance that Freeverse's Totemball would make the most sense as it will be the first game to use any sort of gesture software.

That’s it for this week, and if you hear of any juicy XBLA rumors be sure to send them to rumors@xblarcade.com

Final Fantasy XBLA???

According to GamersReports.com, it seems that the 360 may be getting some Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII spin-off love after all, and not only that, but also that we may see:

one or more of these titles may make their way to the XBox Live Arcade

For credibility they point out that this is the same source that tipped them off about the Alan Wake being published by MS earlier.

You can check out the post here.

Also note that the "Rumor Roundup" section will return tomorrow, but this one seemed to big to wait.

Legalized MAME on XBLA?

Spong.com (always a good source of wacky rumors) is posting that an unnamed, off the record source is saying that we are going to be looking at a MAME-like feature on XBLA that will include tonnes and tonnes of different games (obviously not all of them as some of the publishers no longer exist, and some of the names start with Nintendo).
The Article also talks about an unspecified “major contribution” from Sega to XBLA to be announced at E3 next month.
As for validity of the rumors, we you can expect that a bunch of classic arcade games will be announced, but I really can’t see them suddenly jumping the number of titles to come even close to a quarter of the 3296 games. Also, everyone should be expecting Sega to announce support for XBLA (again) at E3.

VGM interviews Aaron Greenberg, head of Xbox Live Marketplace

Early this morning, VGM posted there latest podcast complete with an interview with Aaron Greenberg, who is the head fo the XBox Live Marketplace. One of the more interesting bits of the interview is when he talks about the possibility of Rare IP coming to XBLA. While he seems to say that Nintendo 64 games, specifically Golden Eye, are a little on the large side and are not currently in the works, he seems to imply that it’s just a matter of time. Greenberg also makes it sound as if we may see some 8 and 16-bit titles first.
R.C. Pro-Am and Battletoads anyone?
Head over and check out the podcast here.

Rumor Roundup

So here is the second roundup of rumors around the net about XBLA.
Garage Games next game will be a tribes based game.
Rumor: Before GDC, video clips started surfacing that were being attributed to GG’s next game and how much it looked like an updated tribes universe.
Our Take: As reported at Kotaku.com, while GG did show a video at GDC that looked a lot like it could have been from the tribes world, it was actually just a demo of what there engine (named Torque) could do, and would actually be released to the comunity for consumption.
Road Rash is coming to XBLA.
Rumor: Pictures showed up and then disappeared that were supposed to be from a debug xbox and showed two gamer’s gamer score for serveral unreleased games including Uno, Poker, Cloning Clyde and Road Rash.
Our Take: The initial posting and then removal of these pictures seemed to lend a bit of creditbility to them, solely due to many people claiming NDA. Also, at the time, nothing had been announced about Cloning Clyde and google searches brought up nothing about video games at all. The next day, NinjaBee’s latest game was announced. The second hint, far more than the first leads us to think that this is a case of someone breaking there NDA and letting the cat out of the bag.
If this is just a rumor, then it means that someone who knew the name and had access to NinjaBee’s unreleased game faked up some screenshots to add in road rage. Seems a little bit far fetched to me.
That’s it for this week, and if you hear of any juicy XBLA rumors be sure to send them to rumors@xblarcade.com
