Gamasutra Interview with David Edery

Gamasutra has interviewed David Edery about how developers can get their games onto the service. The interview really sheds some light for us consumers onto what Microsoft is thinking in terms of the direction of their service. Ever wondered what your development team could pitch that would be likely to get on the service? David responds that

Quote:
One common issue is that a proposal simply doesn't fit the XBLA model -- we're not trying to compete with retail.

Looking at this from the other side, titles most likely to "make the cut" are those that have really put some time into thinking through the potential of the 360 platform and Live service. That might mean a game developed from the ground up for the platform (like Geometry Wars), or a game that has come from another platform but has developed considerably from its original incarnation in terms of graphics, multiplayer, use of achievements, etc.
Later in the interview it goes on to say what types of games they would like to see more of on the service (board games, co-op, and "experimental") and a few other questions aimed more at developers.

more original games?

"For example, we've heard the message loud and clear that XBLA customers want more original games, and let me tell you -- those games are coming."

That's good to hear. I was concerned that the loudest and clearest message was "Why isn't [insert favorite arcade/console classic] on XBLA yet?!" That was pleasantly surprising to read.

I wish they would hurry up

I wish they would hurry up and port the top 10 games from boardgamegeek.com onto the service.

Catan is a good start, and I know a couple of the others are in the pipeline, but I want them all, and quickly.

I'm impatient that way.
