Another misleading description for an XBLA game (Tetris)

I shouldn't have purchased Tetris Splash, but after realizing I had 5000 points on my account and another 1600 point card not even entered yet I purchased it. The description listed "Modes of play: Three different modes of play including Tetris, T-Spin, and Combo, plus a unique screensaver mode." and being the puzzle addict I am my interest in the alternate modes was piqued. Too bad they don't exist.

There is Marthon (normal), 40 lines and multiplayer. T-Spin is just an action you can do with a 'T' shaped block. Combos are just consecutive lines on consecutive pieces. There are no gameplay variants.

In fact you can't even disable the ghost piece or hold queue settings until you unlock enough achievemnts. Thats right, you can't play normal Tetris from the start. Only the updated version aka easy mode.

Sigh...well at least you all can learn from my mistake.

Oh the base game only seems to include 4 fish and two basic aquariums, but they don't affect gameplay in anyway so most people probably won't care. You can't really see it while playing and if you are watching the backgrounds something is wrong anyway. Also of note is that for online multiplayer there is no guest option, which just seems silly considering it is a good family game.

well im also worried about the favorisation ( is that a word? :-) of the US market. They got Aegis Wings for free, and now Tetris.... dont know of other games that are "english speaking countries only" games. But come on... what have we got in exchange?

Part of the issue is licensing agreements. Tetris for example has a few different exclusive publishers/developers in different regions. With the different developers each would have to create a version for their own region.

Licensing and distribution is what is holding up other maretplace content as well. Primarily movies and television shows. As the global market gets bigger all the companies which used to be king's of their own little hill fight to keep controll of what they can. The companies licensing their products like it that way as well. Rather than a single international lices holder and distributor they get multiple clients. If something started small in one region and became huge then they can get more cash from the additional license holders than they could for an unproven product.

Isn't international business fun?

...the answer is no by the by...

I have to say, I downloaded the demo just for kicks, and I really like...

...the screensaver. Seriously, I think it's really neat.

Good thing I held off on the XBLA version. I had a feeling that the actual 360 version might be a little better.

I've tried the retail version, and the XBLA version, and I believe the XBLA game has superior multiplayer. Yeah, the screen is small, but hey, i grew up playing tetris on the Gameboy with a 2-inch screen and two colors.

For me, good mulitplayer is the main selling point of almost any game. I am ignoring the crappy fishtank part and haven't really tried the single-player mode of the XBLA version of Tetris.
