Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Fight!: Streets of Rage 2 and SPFIITHDR

Alright people. We had a decent response last week for our fight but I know we can do better. I mean, where was all the name calling and screams of fanboyism? I expect you to channel all your feelings of betrayal into one heated battle to the death to make smart XBLA purchases.

This week: Streets of Rage 2 and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Read the "rules" post-leap and then get to work!

Results from last week are here. And don't worry about giving "just the facts ma'am" because we want everyone's opinions, no matter how brief.

Wednesday's Haul: Advance Notice Edition [Update]

Gamerscoreblog has just confirmed the arrival of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix this wednesday. It might just be the most confirmed game ever. Conspicuously absent from the latest post is any info on price or the inclusion of War World in this Wednesday's fun. Were we deceived? Hopefully we find out soon.

That's old news though. The interesting bit is this: Besides SPFIITHDR (and hopefully War World), XBLA will also see the release of two DLC packs this Wednesday. First, Bomberman Live! will be getting the Bomb-Up Pack 1. Second, Eets: Chowdown will also be getting some DLC. We already knew that though. No pricing details yet, nor any info on the specific contents of these packs.

Gotta love the advance notice though. Makes budgeting for this week that much easier (or harder as the case may be). Do you think Silver Creek with try to sneak another pack for Soltrio Solitaire in there just to avoid feeling left out?

[Update]: Chris Paladino of Gamerscoreblog has responded to concern about War World not making it this week with the following at the link below:

"War World is not release [sic] this week according to all of the internal folks I've asked...

Sometimes there are many bowling pins being juggled, and developers can get their signals crossed - which is why until you see the press release for the week - nothing is official. "

Looks like I might be breaking out the ol' strikeout tool...

At least they confirmed the price of SPFIITHDR will be 800 MSP.

To War Or To Puzzle, That Is The Question [Update]

Looks like our "Hot August" continues this week with another steaming hot two-fer just one game on tap. Apparently, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be all alone have some serious competition with the straightforwardly named War World also arriving this week.

I may have looked foolish last week when I predicted a double 800 MSP week only to be slapped down by Jeff Minter himself (well, his blog at least). But this week should be a lock, right? So I will predict that this week's titles will both arrive at a stout 800 MSP, an XBLA first. Please don't make me cry myself to sleep use the strikeout again, I'm begging you.

I ask the masses: Who needs some more multiplayer XBLA games? And will you be warring or puzzling this week? Or, dare I say it, both?

[Update]: Strikeout tool in full effect. War World not coming this week. I'll be crying myself to sleep again.

Can't Fool Me Anymore: SPFIITHDR Out Next Week [Update]

Guess I was only off by a week. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will finally arrive next Wednesday (August 29th) for 800 MSP.

Is there anything else that I could say that I haven't already? How about, the Official Xbox Magazine gave it an 8.5/10. That's all I've got.

[Update]: Just to clarify -- It was confirmed by Christian Svensson (Capcom Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research) on their message boards. [Thanks Wasabi]

Bless Those Marketers: XBLA Screenshot Explosion

Just announcing the soon to arrive XBLA games was not enough for Microsoft. They went as far as sending out screenshots of the upcoming games. Tons of 'em.

Xbox360Fanboy's got them all up in convenient galleries but I'll make it even easier for you loyal XBLArcade readers. Below are direct gallery links for whatever XBLA flavor you're craving at the moment. That way you can skip right over the reading part at Xbox360Fanboy. I mean, who would want to read text when you can look at purdy pictures?

Flush with Content: This Wednesday's Haul

I feel a little guilty. Here I am posting with vitriol about how this week's Wednesday was the first in recent memory to cheat us out of an XBLA two-fer. And then, the day arrived and we were overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of all the new content. What content, you say? Why, let me tell you!

Cheer Up Charlie: XBLA's Hot August And Beyond

Sad that this Wednesday lacks the current trend of two-fers? Getting another retro title this week left you cold? Don't despair. Prepare for things to "heat up" very soon. The games coming out soon are "sizzling". Or so Microsoft would have you think.

The good news:

  • Ecco the Dolphin, Hexic 2, and War World all coming out this month.
  • GEON: Emotions, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, Space Giraffe, Streets of Rage 2, and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix all arriving "in the coming weeks".

The bad news:

  • With three Wednesday's left in August and three games listed, kiss your two-fers goodbye.
  • No word on Sensible World of Soccer, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, Street Trace:NYC, and many other games starting with the letter "S".
  • A personal note: Where is my Mutant Storm Empire?!?

Feel free to add your own angry, sad, or psychotic, "where is _____?!?!?!" comments below.

Achievements: SPFIITHDR and Spyglass

On the fence about this week's XBLA offerings? If you're an achievement junkie as well, here's some purchasing decision assistance (PDA, but not to be confused with the personal displays that shall remain undiscussed). We were already thoroughly prepared for Marathon: Durandal's release but Xbox360Achievement has the full skinny on Spyglass Board Games.

And just in case seeing just one new set of achievements isn't enough, they also filled in the gaps from their teaser of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (Capcom must really hate typists and bloggers).

SPFIITHDR Site Now Live; Acronym Lovers Faint With Joy

If you hate those smarmy sites, people like to call "blogs" (yuck) and avoid them under all circumstances (I know I do) then you will be pleased to learn the following: you can finally get your Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix news straight from the corporate marketing team at Capcom.

That's right, the official site is now open for business and sports a synopsis, screens, videos, and wallpaper downloads. Of course, the site also seems to take issue with scrolling down (huh?) but we won't let that sully our love for SPFIITHDR. Oh no. We will lap up any and all scraps of info on this puzzlicious game we can get our hands on. Mmm...puzzlicious.

Coming "Very Soon": Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Remember the Capcom blog that we told you to keep an eye on. Well, apparently we should have taken our own advice a bit more seriously. Lost in the deluge of post-E3 news was this little tidbit about Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix:

"Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix should be available on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network very soon. We’re wrapping it up now."

Wrapping it up could mean almost anything (from going gold to submitting for certification to polish work) so we can't put a real time frame on the arrival. But, anything in the realm of "very soon" certainly sounds promising and they did say they were working hard for a July release.

And while you're reading the blog, check out their sneak peek at the upcoming SPFIITHDR themes they will be releasing. (And they also released a new Chun-Li/Sakura wallpaper; part of which is seen here.)
