8-bit junkies rejoice! There are some feisty developers toiling away in Rotterdam that found inspiration where you found an obsession. Codeglue is betting that their brothers and sisters in (pixelated) arms will enjoy the 2D-styling of their upcoming Rocket Riot. However, simple 8-bit inspiration cannot blunt the challenge of building a next-gen worthy product. Lucky for us, they feel up to the task and are nearing the completion of the game.
I got a chance to pick the brains of a few members of the Codeglue collective to get some perspective on their history, their game, their process, and most importantly Rocket Riot's invisible ninjas.
Read on to learn more and check out more snaps of Codeglue's base of operations.
Rocket Riot looks like it has the potential to be a hit on the Xbox Live Arcade. Boasting 80 single player missions, 4 multiplayer modes supporting 8 players on Xbox Live, and intuitive themes and worlds, all the ingredients are in place to deliver a thoroughly entertaining experience. Codeglue is the developer behind the title and some new screens of the game have recently emerged.
Rocket Riot is expected to hit the Xbox Live Arcade later in 2008. More information on Rocket Riot can be found here.
Buried amongst many other games in THQ's massive XBLA press release was the game Rocket Riot, developed by Codeglue. What you may not have noticed is that this game isn't as much of a surprise as it might seem.
About 9 months ago, we ran a story about a game called Jetpack Junkies, developed by (you guessed it) Codeglue. Back then, we were looking forward to a "turn based multiplayer platform shooter with a lot of guaranteed action." And now, we're looking at "an action-packed side-view shooter featuring a bazooka-wielding jetpack soldier." Confirmation came in to inform us that Jetpack Junkies did indeed morph into Rocket Riot.
Same game, different name. Glad that's settled.
A couple of weeks ago THQ released a press release mentioning their four upcoming titles. Of the four titles we knew about Screwjumper! and heard mention of the upcoming SponeBob game, but Elements of Destruction and Rocket Riot were new announcements. Unfortunately very little other details were given about these titles with the exception of Screwjumper!
Well lucky for us, that changes now.
THQ has been nice enough to send us some info and screenshots about the three new titles:
