Rootbeer Tapper Impressions
I'll start this one off by saying this has to be the most fustrating control scheme of all time.
Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but I can't figure out how in the hell to consistently Tap Rootbeer. Sometimes it takes one press of the "A" button sometimes two, which consistantly means that I'm not sending people drinks when I want and I'm throwing glasses on the floor when I don't mean to.
It's a shame two cause this game definitely could be fun in it's simplicity, but the controls ruin it.
There's another issue when it comes to the versus mode, If you build up any sort of lead, in certain cases it makes more sense to kill yourself than to keep playing if all you want to do is win. The way that it cuts the other guy off and gives him about 1000 point per life, will certainly be exploited.
Quick Impressions
+ Another game from Digital Eclipse (Backbone Vancouver). These guys have put out a ton of xbla games and seem to be getting better and better (anyone interview these folks lately? They release the Midway/Konami games)
+ Good Achievements (not super easy like Namco titles)
+ Uses the UMK3 interface (I think). Looks like this will be the "midway" interface.
+ COOP/VS is actualy fun. Had a blast with my friend playing this.
+ To Tap the Rootbeer hold A long enough that it has the foamy head. Then release. You will get the hang of it. Basically hold A a bit longer.
+ One of the achievments (so far) unlocks a gamerpic. Always a big plus in my book especially for "retro" titles

End verdict: Not worth it
That 7000 on the 1st level was a great & tough achievement to get. I agree that it's hard to guage the tapping, but I guess thats the challenge. I for one am happy that at least the it's not a "easy 200", it'll be really hard to clear this game 100%... Anyone who hasn't done the online co-op, msg me and we'll do it. I can get over 35-40000.
Ah, Root Beer Tapper. Never played it before, and wasn't impressed with the trial, but when we get so few game you can't resist sometimes when you really want to play something new.
Is it me, or is this game extremely difficult? I can't even get past the sports bar, and there seems to be a lot of more levels. The controls doesn't make it easier either. It's kind of fun, but quickly becomes very frustrating.
I wouldn't recommend it.
One thing i liked though was the online achievements. That'll probably make it a lot easier to find someone to play with.
And btw Tomacco, nice idea with this thread :)
I enjoyed the proper version of this game, Tapper, on my C64 back in the day. But it's not really something I'm interesting in playing again - and if I should want that, I allready have it on one of the Midway Arcade Treasures compilations.
Oh, and ofcourse it's available for free off Midway's site. So... I don't really see the point of this release, tbh.
