There should be a forum for non-XBLA games.

I played a few hours of Crackdown last night, and I'm liking it a lot. I'll do a 30 second review here based on my experience so far.

Pros:

- Movement around the city is amazing. I've never played a sandbox-style game before where it's so much fun to travel on foot.

- Leveling up your abilities is a lot of fun too. This game perfectly integrates RPG elements into the free-roaming gameplay.

- Automap is close to perfect, with relevant icons showing up and irrelevant icons disappearing.

Cons:

- Just a few hours in, and it seems like there's not enough bosses to go after. Mercenaries on the original Xbox had 52 bosses!

- Game lacks decent tutorial mode. I'm still not clear on how everything in this game works. Yes, it appears there are 'training videos' that I could fire up... but the last thing I want to do when I'm playing a game is watch a video. And don't even get me started on cut-scenes.

-Oh yeah, cut-scenes. Damn I hate cut-scenes. The ones for the bosses are particularly bad in the boringness department.

Overall I'm enjoying the game a lot.

I wonder if anyone will ever come up with a giant sandbox game that is a lot of fun to play... that doesn't center around violence and guns? not that there's anything wrong with it.. just wondering.

yeah, i'm loving it too as that's pretty much all i've been playing

my cons are

  • the story isn't there. more "open world" games need a story not in "the getaway" sense but more in the gta san andreas sense.
  • targeting is broken due to the fact that you can target dead bodies (i can see why but it's annoying when you're trying to hit two guys right next to each other)

other than that i agree with you and this game is F U N
