PSN Certification Process
Apparently they're having to regularly take games off of the PSN, because system-crashing bugs are in them.
My question is, would you rather have the current XBLA system where cert is hell, or the PSN system where games disappear?
Nintendo gets around both of these problems by simply having released four real titles (the emulators), and only releasing ROMS for those emulators after that.
<<says it will be "communicating directly" with people who bought the games "within the next 10 days".>>
Ouch.
Are PSN purchases are staright credit card like the original xbox? That would complicate things giving refunds, but makes scrip much more appealing for online purchases in cases such as this.
Oh, as far as Wii VC releases the ROMs are actually editted most of the time for various reasons. Sometimes to remove old ads and sometimes to remove glitches or developer modes from passwords. There is just as much a potential for an error to occur, but Nintendo has the best record as far as overall products certified and how few have errors. The DS has a handful of broken titles but as massively huge library conpared to all other current generation systems.
Yeah, Nintendo is not adding complicated things like online mulitplayer/leaderboards/achievements/etc. to these ROMs so I can't imagine that cert is very hard.
I think a lot of the venom surrounding XBLA cert is due to the fact that many people have not had to deal with such a robust amount of TCRs (technical certification requirements). We're talking about 4 controllers, online, video (if included), voice chat, dashboard interaction, game saving, gamercard interaction, rich presence, etc. etc. etc. And on top of all those things (which are also true of retail titles) they also have XBLA TCRs. Stuff like a functional demo, purchasing system, etc. So, doing an XBLA game can be like two times the amount of requirements in some cases. Especially if the game is complicated and online.
Personally, if cert is this crazy and still some bugs are getting through then I don't think people should complain so much. Overall, it's there to help the gamers get what they want and the devs to avoid embarassment and lose sales.

and hten use the wallet cash to purchase it.

After the Spyglass interview commenting on borrowing code for the video chat I am curious as too how much of the basic elements MS lends out.
Some games have been missing lobby system and other have odd layout making it hard to find the control diagram or are missing otherwise common XBLA elements. One would imagine MS striving to get a reasonably similar setup across all interfaces to make it easier for people to find what they need and to do this provide basic coding libraries. However that doesn't seem to be the case from what I can see.
Yeah, it's definitely hit or miss on that stuff. NinjaBee did their own code for the video (at least as I understand it) and it was a huge challenge. No wonder they "borrowed" code for Spyglass. I imagine MS needed a hook for board games to sell and the video chat is a great hook.
