I was frustrated with the lack of XBLA games today and wrote a rambling post about it on my blog. That got me thinking. What does everyone here think the top issues with XBLA are?

My Rants & Reviews

Cool. I'll check it out.

Paperboy was released today, but I'm not into the retro games.

Thanks for the brightspot tip. Sounds like a failed .com business model, but if I can get 5 bucks off my gamefly bill for a few months, that would be nice.

The #1 xbla problem IMHO is consistency. There should be (at least) 1 game a week no questions. Thats it. I completely disagree with how the "community" complains about retro titles. Heck even 4 of the 10 ten last week were "retro". Digital Eclipse (Backbone Entertainment) should be commended for being able to release games regularly. Just because they are retro shouldn't be an issue because they get the job done (looks suspiciously toward Capcom, Namco).

I completely agree with the consistency issues, it seems that while Microsoft talks about how publishers underestimated how XBLA would take off, MS was guilty of this as well.

I understand that the Certification process takes a long time to go through, they need to have (many) more teams doing it so that more games can go through the process in parallel.

the worste thing is that it is being flooded with old crappy games everbody already owns instead of using the 360's capabilities and making cool new games like small arms and geometry wars. Geometry wars is an old game that got a totally killer revamp and kicks but, all the other games are still just as ugly as they were 20 years ago. If your gonna put an old game in, atleast make it look like its for the 360 with nice new graphics and stuff.

This is a bit of an extreme generalization and I really don't believe the list of "retro" games with the features added (leaderboards, some have updated graphics, online play of some kind) back it up. Now what I do completely agree with would be if you say release some retro game that does well. Please for the sake of humanity give us a completely new xbla version of it (SmashTV 2, SFII:II? ie 4, Contra <whatever #>).

added leaderboards isnt anything new. wow it now uploads it to the net instead of just staying on the 360. BARELY ANY have new graphics, and for most of the games i have played the online game wasnt even that good. Plus they are charging $10 for most of these games that are 20 years old.

And it is filled with crappy games, why do we need both PACMAN and MRS PACMAN, its the same fricken game. If MS didnt allow these old crappy games then companies would actually spend the time and money to make new good games instead of beating a dead horse by selling old crappy games. If people wouldnt buy these games then they would be forced to make new good games and it would be a lot better than playing games for $10 that we can play FREE online in flash, or games are in 1200 game cd's for $12 for 1200 games instead of 1 game.

A funny point to make about improving graphics in retro titles, is the amount of backlash there has already been about the improved graphics that will ship with Double Dragon.
