XBLArcade going through some changes
For what seems like forever, we at XBLArcade.com have been looking at changing CMS systems in order to better the site. Unfortunately this means that many improvements that should have been added to the existing site have taken a backseat.
This is about to change!
We've decided to stick with our current system, and over the next few weeks, there are going to be many changes for the better. While I'm not going to list what we have planned, I'm sure that many of our long term readers will be very happy with what's to come.
We also don't want to be doing this within a bubble, so if you guys have any suggestions at all, post them here.
The first thing that I've added is something small, but something that seems to be one of the most requested things, a "Send us tips" page. If you notice on the menu, there it is.
So sit back and enjoy.
Improvements
I think you guys do a great job of publishing news. However, I think you're really missing out on strategy guides per game.
Why not seed, or rearrange, the forums so that there are areas for each game, with places where you can discuss general strategy, achievements and similar stuff. This would probably work best in a wiki style rather than a forum, but a forum would do. For example, in Heavy Weapon, I want to know what order I should use my upgrades, or if in specific levels, certain upgrades do better. Or in Aegis Wing, strategy like how to team up, and grab a secondary weapon so that everyone ends up getting it together.
Maybe you could add some way to allow people to identify which achiements they have so that we can see which ones are easiest to get. This can actually be done programatically, since we register our gamertags, and you can scrape achievements.
With a little work you can really turn this into a premier site.
re: Improvements
First let me just say thank you for taking the time to post this!
I've been wavering on what to do with the forums for ages now. While one forum for each game would be great, the last thing I want to have is 40 forums with zero posts :( Any suggestions to get around this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Another point about the forums I'm thinking about is if people like the "Recent comments" block on the left hand side? I'm thinking of replacing it with something that shows the most recently commented on threads.
On the Achievement front, I've got quite a few ideas, but it's a matter of having the time to implement them.
Again, thanks for taking the time!
Let me second the Thank you
Let me second the Thank you. It's always great when the community gets involved and helps to shape a space such as XBLArcade.com. We are driven by the community after all!
I may be new to the fold here but rest assured I am really excited about all the possibilities of the site and look forward to push out some of the upgrades we already have "in committee".
So, keep the ideas, comments, rants, tips, whatever coming and we'll do our best to provide a great place to read about and talk about XBLA.

Improvements
Personally, I don't think 40 forums with 0 posts is that big of a deal. I don't really hang out in the forums here, or anywhere, but clearly some people do. How to get users and usage is a big problem, but you just have to keep doing great news and add more features, and they should come.
You might use a hierarchy not bombard people with so many forums, or just make them easily searchable, with different sorts. I assume you're using something like CommunityServer for your backend that is pretty powerful?
I notice that you now have Active Forum Topics, which is cool, but I just read your RSS feed, and rarely come to the site. I don't know how to get people to create the data, but I do know that I'd love to come to a site to learn how to best get an achievement, or even just what order I should get them in. I might even share some tips while I was here.
I'm surprised you guys don't review the games, or post recaps of the reviews from other sites.
Anyway, thanks for the site. I hope you find the time to implement some cool things.

Can't wait to see what
Can't wait to see what changes you have in store for us. XBLArcade is easy the best XBLA site out there (IMHO ).
