Pac-Man Impressions
I'm spoiled since I got to play the full game yesterday at the championships but I definitely like this game.
The pace is much higher, I love the lack of the level loading, the visual effects are nice (best part is the widescreen), and the new modes work well.
I might just spring for this when I get home. Gotta get some more points...too bad I didn't win 100,000 points like Carlos!
I too was surpised how fun the game is. I don't have the original pac's so for me 10 bucks seems ok. I only played championship mode but it was very fun. It really is a "modern" pac-man. Everyone should at minimum try the demo.
The only downside is the achs seem a little easy (or is that a positive? )
As I've said in the comments of various threads....
I think this is one of the best games ever made of any kind. The fun factor is up there with anything else I've ever played.
I think the Demo doesn't do the game justice. What really makes this game awesome is the way the intensity reaches a peak in the final minutes of championship mode. You can't really see that unless you buy the game.
I made the top 100 leaderboard on my second game... I'm sure that won't last until I get back home, though....
So yeah, I just bought it...awesome. Seriously. I've only tried out the first three modes listed, but I had to make myself pull away before I got too addicted.
Subtle things like making it timed, not having all the dots in front of you, etc. are small but change the game in ways you really can't say how awesome they are until you try it.
I hope Namco does this for all of their games. THIS is the kind of arcade porting I want to see.

It's a little unfair to compare this to the arcade ports. This is a brand new game, a full fledged sequel more than anything. But whatever you want to call it, I'll take something like this over a port with new sprites any day.
I didn't expect to like this game, but the demo is great. I think I'm going to buy it.
I think I'm pretty good at this.... second game I hit the top 100 on the leadeboard... 10 hours later I was outside the top 400... so last night I played and got back in the top 40, this morning I was down in the 60's somewhere, so I played again and got back into the top 35....
If only I had 8 hours a day to work on my score...
But none of my friends are playing this game, or else the friends scoreboard is broken. Tomacco, Hexx? have you guys had a chance to buy this game?

This game is significantly better than the original two pac-man releases on the arcade. It just plays smoother and the variations of game play make it addictive to me. Too bad they did not come out with this and just packed in the other two. If they could tweak the controls for pac-man and ms. pac-man to flow like the CE those two would be fine. I went from CE and tried playing the other two and it just showed the flaws of those two. I am also very surprised. Good job NAMCO. Now buy Jr. Pac-man from Bally midway and get it on arcade and the circle can be complete.

I think it's unfair for people like Namco (and MS, for that matter) to have us pay $5 for games like Pac-Man, Dig Dug and Galaga at $5 with no upgrades for the game outside of HD support (which still looks no different from their original version) and Achievements.
Regardless of if you consider it a full sequel, upgrade or whatever, it still looks, plays, sounds and acts like a regular Pac-Man game, but is still something completely new and fresh. It's a perfect blend of old and new (like Geometry Wars, for example), and it's exactly what the XBLA needs.
