Top Retro Picks
To kick this forum off I figured I'd set up a informal poll, let's hear your picks for the following categories:
1) Favorite Retro Title
2) Retro title you were most disappointed in
3) The title that everyone else hates, but you love
My answers are:
1) Street Fighter - even though I'm horrible at it
2) Contra - I loved this game as a kid, was it really this bad
3) Crystal Quest - I remember playing it on the Mac as a kid. Didn't translate perfectly to a controller, but still loads of fun.
They're just now realizing how to advertise new arcade games in general, so it's no surprise that you just stumbled upon Heavy Weapon.
The Geo Wars achievements aren't impossible, though they *do* seem that way when you start. If you want to get them though you have to practice and you have to watch some videos online to get some strategies from the masters. My high score is 3.8 million something and I've only ONCE survived 1,000,000 points. So, not impossible, just truly hardcore.
I also think that the achievements are actually really well paced in terms of skill level because typically people plateau at around 250,000, 500,000, and then 1,000,000. Only with more practice and better strategies can you get from one plateau to the next. And it does take some time. But it's possible. (^_^)
Well said. In my opinion, Geometry Wars has some of the most well thought out achievements on the 360. In other words, you actually have to achieve them. Most people will get at least 2 (Pacifism and 100k), but to get the rest, you'll actually have to get better at the game. Granted, many arcade games have this advantage over retail in terms of achievements, but Geometry Wars isn't punishingly difficult like Joust/Robotron/Mutant Storm to get 200/200.
Back on topic, my choices would be:
Time Pilot - for obvious reasons
Defender - "Let's crap on the XBLA!" "Sounds cool, what do you got?" "Hey, let's give them Defender, except worse than before!"
Robotron - I'm not the best, but it is awesome fun!
