Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Achievement Roundup: Puzzle Fighter, Wing Commander, and more

I took some time to finally look over the current state of achievement coverage for unreleased XBLA games over at xbox360achievements.org and here's a summary of what I found:

Undertow, Puzzle Fighter, Board Games via the ESRB

ESRB Watch June 2007:

Not to be outdone by the USK, the ESRB has finally given us some information we can use. Undertow, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and Spyglass Board Games have all received ratings. Undertow comes in at E10+ and the other two come in at E.

In addition, a cursory glance (read: I spent way too much time looking through the site) at the ESRB website also garners the following games that have been rated but have not been released:

Mutant Storm Empire
Tempest
Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe
Spyglass Board Games
Undertow
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Tron
Discs of Tron
Super Contra
Track & Field
Wing Commander Arena
Missile Command
StreetTrace: NYC
Lumines Live! Artist Pack: Madonna "Sorry"
Fatal Fury Special
Cyberball 2072

I am so tired right now I cannot process if any of those names are new or even if those have already been released and I missed it. Or maybe they are full retail titles? Anyone like to tell me if that list is valuable in any way? Thanks.

Leaks from the USK: Tetris Splash?

The USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle) is quickly over taking the ESRB for the best place to uncover unannounced XBLA titles.

The most recent update to the USK site shows the following for Xbox 360:

EXIT (TAITO Corperation)
06/13/07
Genre: Denkspiel/Puzzle

Moving on.

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (CEG Interactive)
06/13/07
Genre: Arcade

And finally:

Tetris Splash (Microsoft EPDC)
06/13/07
Genre: Arcade

  • Didn't know about this one.

Well, to be honest, actually we did know about it. We just didn't know it would be called Tetris Splash.

Anyone mad they just bought Tetris Evolution?

(In case you are wondering about "Microsoft EPDC", it is the European Product Development Centre which is responsible for overseeing the localization of Microsoft products for European markets.)

Puzzle Fighter in July but Desktop Goodies Now

Ryu and KenThe official Capcom digital blog has made a new post stating that the team is working hard on a July release date for Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and that they plan on having a producer blog about the game shortly. To quench our immediate thirst they have created a desktop wallpaper of Ken and Ryu at 1280x1024 and 1920x1200 resolutions.

Puzzle Fighter makes nice on XBLA and PSN

Gamasutra has an interview with Christian Svensson of Capcom (who sports the swanky title of Senior Director of Strategic Planning & Research) which touches upon the upcoming release of Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD.

There are two nuggets of information regarding Puzzle Fighter: First, Puzzle Fighter will be released simultaneously on XBLA and PSN (first time that's ever happened). Second, they will cost the same on both platforms.

Smartly, Capcom dodged a pricing flame war. Lucky for us, on day one we can still battle over which system is the best at running 2D puzzle-based fighting games.

Now, if only they would tell us when this magical synergy will occur and how much it will set us back.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo Artwork Comparison

Racketboy has created a comparison of the Artwork of Super Street Fighter II Turbo vs previous Street Fighter games. This comes courtesy of GameKult, who took pictures of the slides from the Capcom Gamer's Day Event. Results are amazing as can be seen below (more on both websites).

Super Street Fighter + Puzzle Fighter Information

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be coming in the summer timeframe of this year with redone mechanics to make the game better than the original title; however, early reports from the Gamer's Day states that the title's 1080p has been achieved with upscaled graphics, which didn't always look the best. In addition to the balancing issues, the title will feature two new gametypes (Y-mode line up three and Z-mode 2x2 cursor) and two new stages. Screenshots for the game can be found on Kotaku and Joystiq with a GameVideos video below.

Capcom Gamer's Day Announcements

The embargo is up and the flood gates are flowing. Capcom has announced two remakes and two new titles (based off of WizKids and the Games Workshop IPs) for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network. With to sheer amount of information coming out about these titles, we will be splitting the Capcom Gamer's Day announcements into multiple posts, but without further ado the press release follows (click read more for the entire release).
SAN MATEO, Calif — April 12, 2007 - Capcom® Entertainment, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced the development of several digitally downloadable titles for Xbox LIVE® Arcade, PLAYSTATION® Network and PC. Capcom hits including Super Street Fighter® II Turbo HD Remix and Super Puzzle Fighter™ II Turbo HD Remix will appear in all-new form, while licensed games Rocketmen™: Axis of Evil and Talisman appear as downloadable games for the first time. These titles reflect Capcom’s new “Digital Initiative,” which has also produced the incredibly successful Xbox LIVE Arcade title, Street Fighter® II’ Hyper Fighting. “Following in the footsteps of our highly successful Street Fighter II Xbox Live title, these projects represent the beginnings of a much larger ‘Capcom Digital Initiative’ focused around the limitless creativity and community development that can happen with downloadable content models. We’re extremely excited about the ability to address the needs of specific market segments without sacrificing game quality,” said Jack Symon, director, brand marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “We intend to be a major player in this space by using a combination of classic Capcom IP, licensed IP and, in the future, harnessing some of the biggest names in game development to create new classic experiences.” Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix downloads Capcom’s incredibly popular puzzle game into the new generation.
