More Slicking of Precipices

I know we told you about Penny Arcade: OTRSPODEO coming to XBLA a long time ago (three weeks is like years in XBLA time). And then we confirmed it (moreso Hothead did, but still). But now, we have a few more details.

First, Gamespot reports that Vlad Ceraldi (president, Hothead Games) mentioned that the game was coming to a "next-gen platform." Assuming he did not misspeak, one could extrapolate that PA: OTRSPODEO will only be coming to one next-gen platform, the Xbox 360. And thus, will it would be an XBLA console exclusive.

Next, Gamespot reports that "the series would be available for download from Xbox Live Marketplace as episodes are released." (Emphasis added.) Sounds to me like we won't have to wait after all. If this holds true, we'll be playing this game couch-potato-style before the end of the year.

And finally, the game will arrive at "under $20". A 1600 MSP game would obviously set a new precedent for XBLA. However, I would imagine it could easily sell for that price. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic though and it will arrive for an "under $20" price of 1200 MSP.

Anyone else excited (and hanging on every "as" and singular noun like me)?

Hmm, I didn't notice this

Hmm, I didn't notice this until now, but they changed the wording in the article on the pricing. They had originally confirmed the price at $20, but now it's going to be possible under that? I have my doubts they'll go as low as $15, but I can see them splitting hairs over it.

Regardless, if the early impressions on the game remain as positive as the final release, I'll gladly pay $15 or $20 for an episode.

And speaking of the episodes, I wonder if for each season (when they are completed) they would release them in bulk at a lower price? That would be an interesting direction to go for selling content. Although I guess it probably wouldn't work due to the XBLA size restrictions.

I've never heard of this
I've never heard of this before, its certainly have to be VERY special to sell at that price....
Differential pricing is

Differential pricing is always a difficult issue. Usually PC games are cheaper than console games due to there being no payments due to the platform holder, but apparently Popcap's games on XBLA are cheaper than the PC equivalents.

I don't know how long each episode will be, but if they don't have significantly more content than other games on XLBA I don't think 1600 points an episode will go down too well. You don't want to be the most expensive thing on XBLA, it invites negative comparisons.

I wonder if they'll sell the whole season at a discounted price like Telltale did with Sam & Max? It might be a little difficult to do on XBLA, maybe they could send codes to download each episode when it came out.
