Soltrio Strikes Again

Just in case you missed it a couple of days ago -- Buried amongst a giant sized marketplace update at Major Nelson's blog was word that yet another game pack for Soltrio Solitaire. I swear Silver Creek is just toying with me at this point.

Game Pack 7 adds the following gametypes:

  • Canfield Easy
  • Canfield
  • Klondike 2 Deck Easy
  • Klondike 2 Deck
  • Klondike 3 Deck
  • Superior Canfield
  • Xray Klondike
  • Yukon-Rigel's
  • Yukon-Two Decks
  • Yukon
  • The total number of games you can play in Soltrio Solitaire now stands at 87 and the total cost for owning the entire set is 1850MSP (~$23.13).

Which do you all prefer: The more pricey but a la carte Solitaire Soltrio method or the all in one (thus filled with games you won't play) but slightly cheaper (100+ games for $19.95) Hardwood Solitaire method?

The list of what is contained in each and every Game Pack is (as always) here.

All in one for less or make

All in one for less or make the base appication free to download and have to pay for the content packs. All content packs as in unplayable in free non-trial form.

I have to go look up the total for Lumines at this point, but Solitaire is the only competition for it so far. Mad Tracks is rounding out third place as the priciest XBLA game last I checked.

    Silver Creek obviously

Silver Creek obviously didn't learn from the Lumines debacle. Either make the cost of entry lower so that you can shill your overpriced add-ons, or bundle it all together and sell it at a reasonable price.

I'm honestly surprised that we haven't seen an all-in-one Lumines bundle show up on XBLA or at retail yet.

    Well, to be perfectly frank,

Well, to be perfectly frank, the Lumines "debacle" seems to be more a vocal minority. It seems that Q Entertainment has been more than happy with the success and the price point considering they've continued to release new packs at comparable price points.

I myself was disappointed by the higher than usual cost of Lumines but it didn't stop me from purchasing it because to play it on a PSP or PS2 would have required a $130+ equipment purchase and then the game on top of that. So, for me the price was right.

I do understand the frustration though...and I think that the menu options should NOT appear in the base game if it requires an additional purchase (same true in Mad Tracks if I remember correctly). *That* is where I think Q misled people.

    Yes, Mad Tracks had the

Yes, Mad Tracks had the premium DLC as part of the menu system and implied it came with the base game. I was quite vocal about that, but people on xbox.com don't seem to care.

Mad Tracks was a generally well made game (mostly tech issues like a lack of lobby), but if I had known only the first page of challenges came with the title I would have passed it over. If the two additional pages of DLC listings were not included in the demo I would have known what I was actually purchasing and I would still be playing it. I deleted the title from my HDD for now.
