Frequent many arcades in 1989? No? Well, how about owning a SEGA Genesis? (Heck, I had two.) Good. I knew someone out there owned one of those things. So, maybe you played two games that hit arcades in '89 and the Genesis in '90: ESWAT: City Under Siege and Crack Down. The only reason I'm bringing it up is because The Official Xbox Magazine UK has informed the world of the future XBLA release of both games.
Crack Down recently appeared on the Wii's Virtual Console so the transition to XBLA doesn't surprise in the slightest. Heck, ESWAT just came out too. The real question is, what improvements will be in the XBLA version. Leaderboards and achievements are no brainers but will we see a visual facelift? What about online play? (Co-op Crack Down anyone?) And will they port the arcade version or the console version (typically it has been the arcade if there is a choice)?
No answers yet. Just more wait and see, as usual.

That $50 point card is lasting me longer than I expected and if these are Sega's best then it will last me even longer...
Wonder why they aren't releasing any of their console classics like the old Phantasy Stars and Shining Force? or the huge arcade hits like an Altered Beast?

This smells a bit like they're just bringing the same stuff over from VC. After all, Sega games' enhanced visuals are just the addition of a smudge-type filter (not that it doesn't work fairly well in disguising all the blocky edges), so it's not like they have to re-code it for each game, just slap it on, tack on some achievements are you're away.
I hope I'm wrong and it is the arcade versions, as home ports only got up to the level of the arcade originals around the era of the PS2.
I remember playing a bit of ESWAT in the arcades. I recall it would be the sort of game that would be good for a compilation, but I probably wouldn't buy on it's own, even for 400 points.
I have never played Crack Down, as far as I remember, but I do know the Genesis version has the most awesome box art ever.
