Jeff Minter, creator of everyone's favorite love-it-or-hate-it shooting extravaganza Space Giraffe, is already hard at word on his next XBLA project. This time it's a reworking of his game PC Gridrunner++: Arse On Fire.
If Minter's history and the game's name weren't a clear indication, the original game is filled with shooting and enough f-bombs to make a sailor blush. I imagine that will change though as he brings the game to the Xbox 360 masses (with a presumably family-friendly E or E10 rating).
The game is already up and running with a Xbox 360 gamepad and has been tweaked to take advantage of the new-fangled aspect ratio of those High Definition TVs everyone is talking about these days. Here's the full quote from Minter's Live Journal (make of it what you will):
Work-wise, I'm now into the redesign of GR++ for XBLA. I already have it running modified for the different aspect ratio and working off the x360 pad as opposed to the mouse, and I'm changing and extending the gameplay; it'll be a much more involved game than the PC-only predecessor. I'm getting all the gameplay working first then I'll overhaul the graphics; we'll likely go for algo generated 3D shapes rather than the hand-drawn sprites of the PC original.
I'll bet we've got another love-it-or-hate-it game in the pipe to create more controversy and ecstasy.
If you don't mind foul language and songs about "w*nkers" then go here and get some Gridrunner for your PC. Go ahead and die on the first level and see what they say to you.

I hope he shows some early shots of the game before too long. I'm a fan of space giraffe but have taken a bit of a break from it admittedly (I'm slowly trying to get at least a 100 million score). I very much appreciate the "aracade" feel to his games.

I can almost guarantee the preliminary screenies released to the public will be more obscene than the Space Giraffe screenies.
Minter can be an ornery guy and last time he fought the big game companies and they all showed their heavy bias in reviews. I expect him to give the big review sites more than enough rope to hang themselves with this time. This has comedic potential.
I've also take a break from Space Giraffe, but I am trying to knock off as many achievements in half finished games as possible. I bought Mutant Storm last winter and I just got my first belt this morning...yeah...

"How can you hate a man that snuggles with sheep? That's what I wanna know."
You can't unless you are a Scrooge.
Anywho, I feel it is important that people who download the GR++ version link understand that it was not a general release. It was a release originally given out at a fan gathering and so is more profaine than a standard release.
Having said that it is far more fun than the standard release. Not only is it more difficult, but the mental image of people singing alone with the w*nker song is priceless. Admit it, the song infects your brain as it is far too catchy yet still just wrong in so many ways.
