As I'm sure everyone by this point knows, Capcom is remaking Street Fighter yet again, but this time in full glorious HD. Capcom has been pretty good at building up the buzz for their upcoming release of Super Street Fighter II:Turbo HD Remix. Through their blog, they have finally released full in-game shots of the title.
The only thing that could possibly interfear with this game becoming one of the best selling XBLA titles of all time, is the fact that Capcom is double dipping here after the release of Street Fighter II:Hyper Fighting. Will the updated sprites be enough for you to bite on this title? I know for myself, I'll be waiting to make sure that the online functionality is a little more reliable.

I have to admit I was hoping for something more than just the same backgrounds and characters in HD.
It does look beautiful but Im not sure it will resign Capcom VS SNK 2 into retirement, especially if they update that with 360 compatibility.
I guess the main thing is a better populated online environment obviously, but I find fighting games rather soulless online, and from a local point of view it doesn't look like it'll be that exciting.
A remix of Capcom VS SNK 2, or even a CVS 3 (retail or XBLA) would be amazing...

Unfortunately if I'm not mistaken EA now has the rights to the Marvel License for Fighting games, so unless Capcom and EA can play nice (I wouldn't hold your breath) than we won't be seeing Marvel Vs Capcom of any type anytime soon.

The trend for remakes these days is getting worse than the film industry (King Kong etc). They seem to put just as much effort and time into making games like this that could have been actual new games.

I doubt that they will reduce SF:II's price when the new version comes out as it could possibly cannibalize the sales of the new one.

Not saying you're incorrect, but should that be a valid argument?
I realize you have the PacMan precedents, but when a 'real' game comes out like GRAW2, it's reasonable to expect the previous game to be reduced in price by then.
I think if people want digital distribution to be taken seriously, it has to provide the same sorts of consistency rules that brick & mortar provide. Otherwise DLC and XBLA it just comes off as one more corporate revenue stream instead of added value or a real service.
I don't think they'd lose any sales if they cut the price of SF2 to 400 points when this comes out - people will want the shiny "new" version, that's what the hype has built up around. Of course, we're all expecting this to be 800 points, but that's how much Capcom wanted for SF2, and they did pretty much no extra work on that. With all the extra work the artists at Udon have had to do (and it certainly seems to be taking them a long time to do it), they might try to price at 1200 points, which I would think would be a mistake.
Also, I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but pairing these high res sprites with the old animation is going to look awkward, like a flash game. I understand the reason for not adding frames (to keep the purity of the original and because it's an enormous amount of additional work), and I don't expect them to do so, I just worry that they will do all this new art and people will say that they shouldn't have bothered.
I promise to shut up about this now, but first, compare this:

to this:

Now bear in mind the sprites in HD remix are going to be far more detailed than the ones in SF3, but the animation is going to the same as the original SSFT2. I think Youtube's choppy video makes the comparison look even worse than it will be, but it will still look weird.
