As our small way to helping to make your buying decision this week a little easier, we bring you a cornucopia of screens from Tempest. Some are fancy, some are old-school, but all should give you an idea of what's in store.
At the top we have 3 comparison shots demonstrating the differences between the original and the enhanced graphics. After the break, peek at as many screens as we could lay our hands on. Give everything a look, and let the commenting commence.

Yeah, but Space Giraffe was a mess. It was Jeff Minter trying to go beyond Tempest, when really, he should've just done Tempest!

SG is great, but what makes it great - its psychadelic sensory overload - is also its biggest flaw, in that it is frequently unfair and impossible to see what is going on. But overall I prefer it to Tempest.
If this version is in the vain of Tempest 2000 or Tempest X then I will probably buy it, but I've a nasty feeling that it's going to be just a remix of the original (which 2000 was, I know, but at least it had its own character as well)
Not sure it even has the powerups does it?

The demo did not have any powerups.
What this release really does is show how simple a game Tempest was originally and that Space Giraffe offers a lot of need complexity and gameplay the original lacked entirely.
The lack of analog controls, all enemies moving at the same pace and in very simple patterns. maybe it would be better with a 2 litre of Shasta and an all Rush mix tape...
Oh and if the visuals in SG are too much for you then choose to play a music track that is overly mellow. That will lessen the visuals rather dramatically.
