Uh oh... the internet has exploded as Sensible Soccer has been pulled from marketplace due to a bug that will automagically sign the user out of Live when they boot up the game. No word on when it will return, but hopefully it won't be long as I am dying to play this title. According to GameIndustry.biz, this issue was introduced due to
the wrong version of the title being uploaded to Xbox Live Marketplace.
Also of note is that the game will feature advertising powered by Massive Incorporated. Now why would a retro title that costs $10 possibly need more revenue? Especially from a company that has announced that it's had it's
best financial results ever. Oh well, hopefully we won't be seeing any
CompUSA ads.
Do you feel that the introduction of advertisements in Sensible Soccer is something that will upset the average XBLA player?

Ads in a pay game with free dedicated servers I might be able to accept, but peer2peer and double the cost for a retro title?
Massive has kept some older MMOs alive and charge free, but this is rather tasteless in a full price XBLA title.

No, as long as they're advertisements for sports related products (and of course COKE) then i'm okay. You won't really notice the advertisements when you're in the heat of the game anyway.

Having to pull the game because of a bug is unforgivable when you consider how long the game was delayed "to get it right".
I'm not a big fan of dynamic ads in games. Sports games will always have advertising, but it's nicer to think of them as keeping the game accurate to the source, rather than as the developer using you as an additional revenue stream.
It would be more palatable if there was some sort of benefit to the consumer, like the game being released at a lower price, but aside from certain MMOs, it seems dynamic ad enabled games go for the same price as those without.

The ads are just for magazines and game websites. I'm guessing that it just looks at yourIP, and says 'Oh you're in England, have English ads' and so on, rather than anything more sinister.
Game rocks btw
I fail to see how a sports game would be any better without advertisements (or with fake ones). Actually, I remember back in the old days (before in-game ads were worth anything), game devs would put in fake ads that looked like real ones in order to make sports and racing games more authentic.
Anyway, I was lucky enough to get this before it was pulled, and it's great. But why didn't MS test the game before publishing it? Sure, it was Codemasters who made the mistake to begin with, by giving them the wrong version, but you'd think they'd have a quick look at it before sending it out to the public?
