As they promised recently, Microsoft is making good on their promise to provide all Live users with a free XBLA title to make up for Live being so flaky over the holidays. While some people will no doubt dislike the fact that it's not a brand new game, I personally think Undertow is a great choice.
The influx of new players, should reinvigorate a great title that was severely hampered by the fact that it was released in the middle of some of the best retail games to ever come to the 360. Hopefully what this also does is increase the available market for the inevitable DLC that I hope Chair Entertainment is working on (pretty please!!).
For those of you who haven't purchased this game yet, you can get it for free, for a week, starting next Wednesday, and yes it is for both Gold and Silver members.
[UPDATE] Major Nelson stated on his blog (in the comments) that if you have already bought it, call Customer Support and they will "Take Care of you". Thanks PsychoDBoy

While I'm sure everyone would have rather had a free pick, you have to understand why MS did it this way.
As for the game, it took me about an hour to really get into it and understand what was going on. From that point on, it's been one of my favorite XBLA games to date.

ffs, couldn't they just release Ikaruga or any other high profile game as a free download? that would be sweet.
Anyway, since it's free I think I'll download it

Must've sold poorly that they chose this game.
Giving away a new game or a best seller would make Microsoft lose money.

Agreed. I didn't like the trial at all.

What was it that you disliked about the demo? If it was the ability to see you character (a common issue) it definitely takes a bit of getting used to but after that it's easy.

So who has the # for customer service?...heh
Seriously, I want some points back, but I would really be more or less taking advantage of this opportunity to do so only becuase I didn't really get much out of undertow, it let me down.

Hmmm, how to annoy paying customers. First offer up an average game at best and then rather than automatically refunding points to anyone who already has the game, MS makes these people go through the hassle of calling customer services. Doh! It would have been a lot fairer if they offered a pick from 5 or 6 older titles.
Even though its free, I'm not sure if I'll take it to be honest. Demo left me underwhelmed.
Thanks MS! And I still have shlonky Live service to boot.

While I like Undertow I havw to wonder why MS decided to screw the most devoted Live fans and XBLA fans (who are more affected by the DRM and unusable purchases).

Free time would have made more sense overall. A new title would have been an across the board apology. This is just a slap in the face.
If you don't already have Undertow pick it up, but this is a pathetic reply to poor XBL service. Either make restitution to all or don't bother.
Does anyone know how customer service will "sort you out"? If they will credit your account with 800 points, that's actually a better free gift than a game some people might not want.
That said, if they had to give away a game, I think Undertow is an excellent choice, as it will benefit from the high userbase that it will get after the free download period. I do feel sorry for the people who already bought it, but people were going to complain no matter what game was given for free, even one that nobody had. And for the people complaining about getting "an average game", bear in mind that Undertow has a metascore of 79, which makes it one of the highest rated of any of the game on XBLA.

No one knows and we won't find out until the Wed to Sunday window.
I am out of town every weekend, but since I have no classes for almost a month I intend on finding out what the "sort you out" really is on Wednesday. Still rude to make people jump through hoops.
