This Week: Rez HD joined by Chessmaster Live

Rez HD may have been a foregone conclusion but the running mate in all those rumors came along for the ride as well. This week marks the release of the afformentioned Rez HD alongside the also capable Chessmaster Live. Both come in at 800MSP.

We've talked plenty about Rez HD, so let's discuss Chessmaster Live a bit. Chessmaster will follow in the footsteps of its mighty PC ancestry with 5 chess variants (including Message Chess which I think is a great touch). Expect a deep range of challenging AI and some clean visuals. And on that note, here are some screens of Chessmaster Live in action.

Usual press release type stuff after the break. Enjoy!

A brand new recreation of the cult-classic shooter created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi, "Rez HD" launches on Xbox LIVE Arcade this week. In addition to "Rez HD," chess fans and newcomers alike will enjoy checkmating friends with "Chessmaster Live" on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Both games will be available on Wednesday, January 30 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (1:00 a.m. PST).

"Rez HD" is a frenetic, wire-frame adventure set to industrial beats and rhythms that match the action. The story of "Rez HD" takes players deep into the world's computer network where they must hack the system, alter the visual output and take over the music, creating unique rhythms and eye candy as they dig deeper into the cyberworld.

Developed by Q Entertainment ("Lumines Live!" and "Every Extend Extra Extreme"), "Rez HD" for Xbox LIVE Arcade is a high definition update of the original game with brand new elements such as new visuals and sound effects. The game features five levels, each with its own unique visual theme, style and musical track, as well as three modes, including Easy, Main and Score Attack. "Rez HD" will be available worldwide for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.

A downloadable version of Ubisoft's hit "Chessmaster" series, "Chessmaster Live" allows players to test and tune their chess skills against the AI or opponents of all aptitudes around the globe via Xbox LIVE. "Chessmaster Live" features five original chess variants, including a Message Chess option, which allows gamers to engage in matches over the span of several days, weeks or even months. The title boasts both beautifully crafted 3D chess sets inspired by luxury chess board designer House of Staunton. "Chessmaster Live" will be available worldwide (with the exception of Japan and Korea) for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.

Finally, I was getting tired
Finally, I was getting tired of all the speculation wether Rez would be released this week or not.

Now I face a dilemma: what do I get? I've already played through Rez in the PS2 (but then again, I've played chess every day a few years back)..... Oh, questions and more questions :D
I wish this chess game was
I wish this chess game was 400 points. I'd seriously consider it... but for $10, I just can't bring myself to bother. I might reconsider if someone redid Battle Chess for XBLA.
Awww... 800MSP is just too

Awww... 800MSP is just too much for a chess game! Although I might still buy it, it is still too much. 800MSP is equal to 10 euros which is 15 US dollars. It is, use google if you don't believe.

This is still just a board game but in the television. 600MSP would be a better price for this, if Microsoft would have just added that along with the 400 and 800 (and 1200).

The reasons why I would still buy this are:

*the cool message chess

*I've got an Xbox Live camera

*I don't see that other XBLA chess game worthy at all so this seems to be the only option on Xbox 360 now

I will most probably buy this someday, but I'm not sure yet that should I wait for a possible price drop or should I buy it when it's brand-new.

If this would be 6,5€ (equal to 10USD) I wouldn't probably have any big considerations. But as this is made in USA, you can have it a bit cheaper of course. I ain't envying, if you're thinking that. I think that envying is waste of time. But you Americans who are considering if to buy this or not, I would recommend to buy it.

you can just create an xbl
you can just create an xbl account on the US and buy MSPoints from eBay. I usually buy 4000 points for about 35€
Really? Wow, I've never

Really? Wow, I've never really thought of that. The bad thing in it is though that if you already have an account you can't have the points for that account. So if you are going to play the games by another console (i.e if your console breaks) you have to have the buyer account on your other controller to play them by your account. Also you need to be in Live.

But am I able to buy things from abroad as I'm 17? And when I'll be 18, is it hard to do that? Is it complicated?

Didn't Microsoft say that if you use a foreign account by your Xbox 360, they might ban the account? I'm not sure about it though but I remember reading something like that. Although they wouldn't lose anything if for example I would use that trick. Instead, they would probably lose a customer if they would ban a buyer account.

What's wrong with Spyglass

What's wrong with Spyglass boardgames? It's got Chess, Checkers, Reversi and that other game with Vision support and it's only 400 MSP. I have it, it's good. Hard to mess up board games honestly... unless you're Sierra's DLC! Zing!

I was gonna say, isn't

I was gonna say, isn't Spyglass Boardgames a better deal?

Spygalss has a lot of

Spygalss has a lot of technical issues which get in the way playing chess. The lack of a true overhead veiw is one major hinderance as well as non standard Chess rules (there are a few variations depending on where you live or competition rules).

If you just want the basic games to play with people then Spyglass is fine, but those who were looking primarily at chess were generally disappointed with Spyglass in many areas.

You are correct in noting

Zmoke:

You are correct in noting that if you purchase items on a different account (at all, even if from your region) then recovering the titles after a dead 360 is a big issue.

Is it do able, yes. It is also a gamble and requires circumventing various things which banning or worse is a risk.

Alright, I'll consider about

Alright, I'll consider about that. But not currently though, I have still got 5,000 msp left. But if I've spent them someday, I will have to consider about the trick.

Well, yes I've played the Spyglass but it isn't that good in my opinion. First at, I don't like some of its games. Also, I'm willing to spend only to a good chess game not to reversi.

The Chessmaster Live has that message chess, which is a great option. Also it is modern and probably the main point; all of its achievements are chess achievements. How hard they ever would be, I would still love to get them. On the contrary, Spyglass has only one or two chess achievements. And as I would probably play the chess game (which ever I'll buy) for a longer time, it'd better be pretty good.
