Empire Interactive is officially ready to bring another title to the Xbox Live Arcade in 2008. The developer has revealed plans to bring Pipe Mania to a slew of platforms this year, including the Xbox Live Arcade. Empire Interactive was behind the original release of the game back in 1989 and the title has seen numerous ports on over a dozen platforms since then.
The nature of the game is quite friendly and simple to get down with, as all you have to do is lay down pipes on a tile grid to keep the flow moving. If you're still a little confused about the concept, Xbox 360 owners that have played BioShock should be able to get into the game quite nicely thanks to the hacking concept that was featured in the title.
There's no immediate word on the release of Pipe Mania except that it'll be arriving on the Xbox Live Arcade sometime in 2008. Empire Interactive plans to add new modes of gameplay, themes, and mechanics.

I feel almost sorry for Empire. The concept of Pipe Mania is pretty much dead after Bioshock's success.

it'll be interesting to see what they do with it to distinguish it from the Hacking mini game

hmmm will have to wait and see. I'd rather have Miner 2049er though. (I wish I still had the Atari 800 I grew up with).
EDIT: actually I'm thinking about a game called oil's well or something like that.
Anyone but me getting annoyed by the fact that Microsoft keeps pushing this shovelware and goes out of their way to keep independents with original games out? Or should I say, they're turning XBLA into "Virtual Console", where you can pay to get games that are older than mold or easily found on the net and turning indies away to XNA.
Pipe Mania? Really...? C'mon!

This reminds me a lot of Pipe Dreams 3D that I've got (still) for my PS1. I didn't like that much, but my sister used to play it all the time. She doesn't play games all that often anymore, so I don't see a use in this game. lol
But yeah, like Twitchfactor said, bring on the original ideas. People seem to keep rehashing all the old "classics" which I never really liked in the first place, 'cept for Sonic (but I'm just burnt out on that, so I didn't buy that one either).

Well, we can't pretend that what was in Bioshock was remotely challenging. I wouldn't even call it interesting. Pipe Mania at least originally brought that to a far more interesting, hectic level. At the same time, when there's two free clones of it it's hard to get excited.
There's screens of the DS version of this. I imagine the XBLA one will be similar. They have different themes for the levels (pipes, computers, trains) and other things on the board that weren't present in previous versions. I guess we'll see.
Clearly some people like this stuff. The team on Bioshock liked it enough to clone it in their hacking sequences, there are several pay-for and free clones of it. I'd love to see more new stuff too, but you can't please everyone all the time.

Pipeline, Pipe Dream, Pipe Mania... all the same game. Even was an arcade game.
I totally remember playing the Amiga and IIGS versions. Wouldn't mind revisiting the game.
