Penny Arcade Adventures $20 (and coming soon)

In the latest Gamespot Hotspot podcast (3/25), the Hotspotters discuss with Hothead about Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One and wind up revealing that the title will be 1600 MS Points. The interesting part about this was prior to this announcement Microsoft had told us that the most expensive games will be 1200 MS Points. Have the rules changed? Are they going to release a newer download section (ala Xbox Originals) for "bigger" titles?

$15 is the most I've ever

$15 is the most I've ever pay for a digital download game. And even that's pushing it.

love penny arcade - its my xbla avatar
but I'm not paying that.
<3 P-A but...

I've been looking forward to this game since they said they were going to make one.

But it has to be pretty damn good if I'm going to pay that much for it. Or content rich I guess.

PA is cool, but don't think

PA is cool, but don't think the game will warrant spending 20 bucks on unless it goes to fetch me a beer too while I'm playing it. That I'd pay for though.

Penny Arcade has a good

Penny Arcade has a good strip now and then, but I do not understand the fanatic following it has...anywho...

Episodic content is always really pricey and you always pay significantly more buying the episodes individually. Valve tried it with HL2: Episode 1, got a serious backlash and has since moved on from the idea. I had hoped others would have learned from it.

The game better be incredibly long to justify the price on XBLA, but I doubt that. It seems more likley they are banking on the built in sales being a PA game.

I'm a fan of PA, and

I'm a fan of PA, and according to the developer you can expect about 10 hours of gameplay per episode, which in itself isn't a bad deal at all ( I can think of a couple retail games that I have't gotten 10 hours out of yet ).

But the problem that they are going to have is two fold:

1) At twenty dollars they are giving the impression that the game is significantly better than anything else on the service.

2) If they came out with a 15 or even 10 dollar pricetag, they would end up with more units sold (but maybe not higher total dollars). With a higher install base, they would have far more potential to sell future episodes. While some people may buy episode 2 and not 1, I would imagine them to be in the very small minority.

Having said all that, it better be one hell of a demo.

It may be worth the price,

It may be worth the price, but we won't know until it is actually released. As far as retail games go I often think they are not worth the price. While this generation has some gems there are many more games being released and a greater percent of them are crap. Even the fun games are hard to justify at $60 due to their length or replayability.

Like you said, at $20 though it is setting the bar for itself very high. Unless the game just absolutely trumps every other XBLA title by a sever margin it will still be seen as over priced. It could be a great game but people may pass on it all together just due to the price.

"Having said all that, it better be one hell of a demo."

PS: Your host sucks. Driving me batty.

I'll get it but...

I'll get this game even if it costs 1600 points but i the game doesnt have 500-1000 achievement points I will sue the living **** out of microsoft to the point that they are forced into bankruptcy.

"Your host sucks. Driving me

"Your host sucks. Driving me batty"

you still having issues connecting?

The price isn't for MS to decide

The price isn't for MS to decide (although they are technically the publishers for all marketplace content). Bankshot billiards I think was either $15 or $20 to start. And other games with all of their add-ons exceed that price. For a service that includes a free trial of the games, $20 isn't too much to ask. I can spend that on dinner. The catch is that the game needs to be good for that price, especially considering the current price point of most of the other content. Also, with a lower starting price point, they may achieve more lifetime sales. AS it is, for the same price I can buy Assault Heroes, TMNT, and Triggerheart Excellica for the same price.

Same issue still. I can only
Same issue still. I can only access the site (and post) from my smartphone or from XP running in an emulator. Most likely a Vista specfic issue.
Vista is straight up garbage.

Vista is straight up garbage.

1600? No thanks.

1600? No thanks.

I got excited when this

I got excited when this title was announced, but after watching some gameplay vids, my interest lowered and with that 20 dollar pricetag I'll pass it completeley. That's even more expensive than full-fledged Xbox Originals titles. With a 20$ pricetag they're competing with the Half-Life 2 episodes, while they should be competing with the Sam & Max episodes (around 10$ each).

Bad move by Hothead, IMO.

Vista is great ya'll are

Vista is great ya'll are haters. I refuse to go back, it is so much better than xp

Vista here, no issues.

@dezombie - no issues with vista here, firefox or IE.
