The belabored development of the XBLA version of the mech arena fighting game War World has apparently ended. IGN is reporting that the game is set to release this week (October 1st).
We first reported on War World back in November...of 2006. Back then, the plan was that the game would arrive sometime within 6 months. However, there was some concern about the size of the game (the demo was 149MB) fitting under the then tightly controlled 50MB limit.
Flash forward to July 2007 and Gamespot confirmed the game was in still in development and that it was targeting a "late summer" release. Then, Microsoft announced it would be part of their "Hot August" but never showed up. Now, more than a year later (and a size limit increase) we are apparently on the precipice of a release. Course, last time I said that was a year ago.
Anyone saved points for this one...and for how long?

Yeah! They announced it so long ago I had given up hope that it would ever release. I hope it is worth $10 after waiting so long.

Wow, I am so looking forward to this game. Now if I can scrounge up the cash to get myself some points for this game.

I am hoping this release does well, but without gold this title doesn't interest me anymore.
Unless I find a really good deal on a gold year package during the holidays, and the netflix streaming works well, I doubt I'll ever subscribe again.

That demo is very disappointing.
Not only is it so ridiculously short that I had to play it three times to get any real feel for the game, but the graphics are very jittery from dropped frames. The loss of speed compared to the PC version is very dramatic.
It may be due to various limitations, but the game just didn't translate that well at all.

Well after giving the trial (if you can call it that) a whirl, I am very let down by this game. 45 seconds!?!?!? Framerate drops alot... Wow, this game had so much potential. After all the delays I can't believe this is the final version.
Heh, I played (and enjoyed) this back in 2006. On the PC, of course. :)
I would pay cash immediately just to have this!
