Paramount Digital Entertainment has announced that a new gang style brawling game based on the 1979 film The Warriors will be released later this year to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the movie's theatrical release. The Warriors is set to release exclusively on the Xbox LIVE Arcade.
The development of the game is being handled by CTXM, which many of you no doubt recognize from their previous XBLA game releases, including Heavy Weapon, Feeding Frenzy, and Astropop. Some of you might be wishing Rockstar was handling the development but CTXM does have a good amount of experience with XBLA and the game trailer highlights their experience and dedication to this upcoming title that is due out in the Summer of 2009.

@Shiaoran After the hours and hours of fun I've had with the TMNT Arcade game, that's not a bad thing

Did I ever say it was? ;)
IMO it's awesome to see a game like this in 3D, I've ever wondered if someone could pull it off. I just hope the street fighting with gangs genre still holds it's own, it would be a shame if it's sales were bad because of it's unpopularity today.
I'm still hoping for a Streets of Rage 4 and more good TMNT beat 'em ups (these newer ones are crap). A remake of the Simpsons arcade game with it's plot and characters corrected wouldn't be half bad (since it was made so early, just a handful of characters were introduced, giving very little material for the developers to work on, so they ended up making stuff up and even used Smithers as the main villain :P).

Well, I'm skeptical. It looks very classic indeed (especially the bus at the end of the trailer). But I've grow past these games. I used to play Final Fight with friends at the arcades more than a decade ago. I used to play TMNT: Arcade Game on a friends Amiga. Awesome times. But thats all it is for me. Nostalgic moments, nothing more. I do like the fact that someone takes the time to make a very classic brawler like this - and I wish them the best - but it doesn't suit my mind no more.

I can dig it. 2D brawlers will always be a guilty pleasure of mine and never get old. Aside from the couple on XBLA, my friends and I still fire up MAME quite a bit to play all the other greats that they don't want to release on a console.
