No, Lumines Live! hasn't turned into some game where you have to shoot hordes of invading aliens to save Earth. Q Entertainment has hooked up with Live Earth. Genki Rockets (aka that Heavenly Star girl) will be performing at Live Earth and Q will turn a portion of your DLC purchases into a charitable donation to combat global warming.
Purchase the Tokyo Club Mix Pack (aka SOS Charity Campaign Pack 4 skins, 350 MSP) between June 27th and July 17th and pat yourself on the back. A portion of your purchase with be donated to "climate protection NGOs and causes." Sure that sounds vague, but who cares? You're experiencing the music of the Tokyo Club scene and saving the world to boot! So, put down your digital guns and start dropping blocks.
For those heartless types out there that like the idea of an impending ice age, there are other ways to give Q your money without helping out Mother Earth. Arriving along side the Tokyo Club Mix Pack are the Booster Pack (20 skins, 600MSP), four Gamerpic Packs (5 pics/pack, 100MSP/pack), and a Lumines Theme (150MSP).
Full press release after the break.

On the heels of their successful debut last September, the Tetsuya
Mizuguchi produced hybrid unit, Genki Rockets, have been selected to
perform at the Japan venue of the Live Earth concert on July 7, 2007.
Genki Rockets will be making their performance debut with "Heavenly Star"
and a brand new song called "Breeze."
Initiated by Al Gore, Live Earth is a monumental music event that will
bring together more than two billion people on July 7, 2007 to raise
awareness about global warming. With 24 hours of music across 7
continents, Genki Rockets will join the performances of more than 150 of
the world's top musicians, where Live Earth will engage, connect, and
inspire individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve
the climate crisis.
To commemorate this event, Q Entertainment will be donating a portion of
its proceeds from the "Tokyo Club Mix Pack" (dubbed "SOS Charity Campaign
Pack") which features a remix version of "Heavenly Star" to climate
protection NGOs and causes .
"It is a great honor to have been selected to perform at the SOS (Save
Our Selves) Live Earth concert, a massive, globally initiated musical
event that will raise awareness and help combat our climate crisis," said
Genki Rockets producer and Q Entertainment chief creative officer Tetsuya
Mizuguchi. "I was overjoyed and surprised when I received the news. It
was only a year ago that I started working on Genki Rockets with a simple
concept in mind – in 30 years from now, what kind of song would a
17-year old girl from outer space who has never landed on Earth sing to
those living on Earth? Thanks to this great opportunity, I now feel a
stronger connection with our environment and hope that I can contribute my
part to preserve the beauty of this heavenly star called Earth."
"Heavenly Star" is currently available for purchase at the iTunes Store US
($0.99) and the music video can be viewed at
http://genkirockets.space.live.com, http://www.myspace.com/genkirockets
and http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Qchannel.
Those with an internet connection will be able to view the Live Earth
musical event on July 7, 2007 at http://liveearth.msn.com.

Wow, that came out of nowhere. Lumines Live lives!
20 skins for 600 points sounds great.
4 skins for 350... do I really like Al Gore that much? I'm guessing those are probably video skins, am I right? Not sure about those, but good news anyway.

It's my favourite puzzler on XBLA. Pretty sure I'll be picking up the Tokyo and Booster packs. Hopefully we'll get a proper XBLA release next Wednesday also. I'm itching for a non-retro shooter. As Aegis Wing wasn't released here in Europe , feels like ages since we've had a modern shooter released. Mutant Storm Empire would do nicely.

Will the original Heavenly Star skin/challenge be back on the market then?
I had to exchange my 360 so now most of my content only works when I'm online (working with tech support to fix it), however some wouldn't work even online. That could be fixed by redownloading them. Problem is Heavenly Star is not on the Marketplace anymore nor is it in my Download History. So until it returns, it sits on my HDD unusable.

I think I might have to replug my 360 back in for this.
Are these skins only available between Jun 27 and July 17?

The indication I got was that the skins would be avaible indefinitely but if you want your purchase to count toward the charity you must buy it during that time frame.

What I get from that is that the "Tokyo Club Mix Pack" will be dubbed the SOS Charity Campaign Pack for the time between June 27th and July 17th -- since buying it during that time applies to the charity. *After* that point it'll just be called the "Tokyo Club Mix Pack". Otherwise it wouldn't make any sense for the pack to have 2 names...one for the time being as a promotion but forever as "Tokyo Club Mix Pack". Why would they want to prevent customers from buying it down the line after the promotion?
