Spyglass Q&A @ GamingTalkHQ

There's a nice little interview over at GamingTalkHQ with Aaron Fothergill of Strange Flavour (with a spelling like that you'd think they were from the UK. Wait. They are? Why didn't someone tell me?). Strange Flavour is responsible for bringing us Spyglass Board Games (which is loosely based on Freeverse's Big Bang Board Games).

In the interview Mr. Fothergill talks about their relationship with Freeverse, their amazing staff (all three of them), and how the game is "really more of a video chat app with some board games set up to play while you chat."

I used to be highly addicted to playing games in MSN messenger with my friends so we'll see if this (and its lovely video chat window) can hook me just the same.

Wait, is this the same Aaron Fothergill who was responsible for the incredibly fun Amiga game Jetstrike? That game needs a modern sequel.

Based on the trivia at Moby

Based on the trivia at Moby Games I would imagine that it IS the same Fothergill and his brother too. (http://www.mobygames.com/game/jetstrike)

Jetstrike was... kind of

Jetstrike was... kind of difficult to explain, really. Or rather, it's kind of difficult to explain what was good about it.

Basically, it was a side-scrolling, "flight sim" (it wasn't really a sim, but it wasn't really arcade either - you could stall the plane, for instance). It had a ton of different planes (all with their own characteristics).

You'd get simple missions (bomb this, shoot down that), and then you'd head out into the world to accomplish them. Often it was easier said than done, because there were enemy planes, AA-guns, et.c., that made your life difficult. When the goal had been accomplished, you had to return to base and land.

Oh, and the Amiga CD32-version had a very interesting soundtrack - actually, I found Aaron Fothergill's website, and you can have a listen there (check "Drop the Bomb" - and remember, this was a commercial retail game :) things certainly were different back in the nineties, before the industry started taking itself so seriously...)

Anyway, Jetstrike is one game I'll always have fond memories of. It didn't look like much, but it played really, really well.

I typed in Jetstrike for a joke and found this thread.

I would Love Jetstike on Xbox Live i played it all the time on my old Amiga
