New Poker Smash Video Proves Game is Aces

Ever since Tomacco's wonderful E3 Poker Smash interview, many regulars of this site have been looking forward to this quirky poker / puzzle game love child that will be (soon) "smashing" onto XBLA. CES seems to have brought this title back into the mainstream gaming presses sites as 1up has compiled a lenghty preview of the game along with a new gameplay video at GameVideos.com. Even with the familiarness of the gameplay, it still has a nice refreshing quality to the game. What do you think? Will this be a solid new addition to Xbox Live Arcade?

This game reminds me of
This game reminds me of Planet Puzzle League, a DS game I love. But using the DS's touch screen and the xbox gamepad is a very different experience, I'll have to wait and see if I like this one or not.

Poker Smash controls
The Puzzle League comparison is a good one; Poker Smash is based on the same mechanic. As far as the controls are concerned Poker Smash has a new control scheme that uses both analog sticks. The left stick places the cursor on a card, and the right stick is used to slide the selected card from side to side. The end result plays a lot faster than the old double cursor from Tetris Attack and more similar to the stylus controls for Puzzle League on the DS. My favorite part of the game is making chains and the fast controls combined with the slow motion power-up make really long chains possible.
