Japanese Shoot-em-up, Trigger Heart Exelica, announced for XBLA? [Update]

Excuse the question mark up there, but my Japanese just isn't what it used to be :) According to those who can read Japanese, in the latest issues of Arcadia, it was announced that Trigger Heart Exelica would be making it's way to the service.

If you haven't heard of this game before, don't feel too bad about it, the game has been released twice, once in the Arcades in Japan and again for the Dreamcast in Feb of this year (slightly missed the DC window). On top of that the game received less than stellar reviews, including 25/40 from Famitsu Magazine.

If anyone wants to try and translate it, the scan can be found here.

[Update]: Here's a direct link to the Trigger Heart Exelica site. Machine translated version here.

Hooray for Japanese shmups!

I bet in Japan the Dreamcast version sells better than the XBLA version.

Anyways, that looks cool. The catch and fling thing looks really interesting. I've never seen anything like that in a shoot em up before.

And it does seem to be about as Japanese as they come. Yep...

It's hard to find

It's hard to find sufficiently objective reviews of Dreamcast games, because the system has quite a cult following, and the only people who still have them tend to be rabid fans who are so incensed that their beloved console was so cruelly betrayed by the buying public in favour of the evil PS2, that they feel the need to declare that any game released for it must have been much better than anything else available and you would have realised that if you weren't such mass-market sheep.

That said, this game looks pretty interesting. XBLA is actually really short of traditional scrolling shmups, you'd think there would be lots of them on the service already. Unfortunately, vertical scrollers don't really fit well onto a system that works with a 16:9 screen, and horizontal scrollers are much less common, considering most shmup's arcade origins.

Incidentally

About a month ago, I read a detailed review at insomniac.ac where Alex Kierkegaard gave it a 3/5. I figured they'd have to release on other platforms to recoup production costs - looks like I was right.

As an aside, I love the way name "Exelica" - so ... memorable.

They're even supporting the "flip your monitor sideways" mode, which I haven't seen in a widescreen game before.

Supposedly targeting this year for release, but I'll assume that's wishful thinking.
