A Lady With A Laser: Omega Five Screens [Update]

Continuing the flow of media out of Microsoft's pre-Tokyo Game Show announcements comes these screens for Omega Five.

Omega Five, if you will remember, is the side-scrolling 2D shooter with 3D elements from Hudson Entertainment (Bomberman Live!) and Natsume (Harvest Moon series). The game looks to be shaping up nicely. Let's hope the control issues have been ironed out.

After taking a peek below tell me: anyone more interested now? Less?

[Update]: 1UP's preview of the game indicates the single-stick controls have been ditched for the now typical dual-stick controls. But then they have other issues with the game. Thanks, lastof7.

Here's an old screen:

And here are the new ones (notice the few visual changes since last we saw the game):

Omega Five Control

Can't say for sure since I haven't played it, but it sounds like whatever experiment in controls that Joystiq found was ditched for two stick control:

This game looks so tight, I

This game looks so tight, I can't wait for it to come out. I hope the controls are okay now, it's hard to imagine someone messing up a side scrolling shooter game.

I'll be getting this for

I'll be getting this for sure.

I've noticed the difference

I've noticed the difference between the old and the new screens. The old one was bigger.

Seriously, though, I love shmups (although I'm getting too old and too slow to be good at them), so unless they completely arse it up, I'll probably pick it up. However, call me a traditionalist, but I much prefer to be piloting a ship than controlling a person in a jetpack. How huge is that guy's hitbox going to be?

Did you ever play

Did you ever play Imperishable Night? (I only played a PC demo.) Your "ship" was a girl. But it was vertical and not horizontal. Oh, and the girl wasn't so huge.

No, I've never even seen
No, I've never even seen Imperishable Night. Capcom's Forgotten Worlds from 1988 was a a side scrolling shmup with a protagonist in a jetpack, so it's not like there hasn't been a precedent for this sort of game, but Forgotten Worlds wasn't much fun to play, unfortunately.

This is how I learned about it...and there should be a link there to the english fan site which should help you download the demo if you want.

But seriously...this is bullet hell on an entirely new level. Prepare to drop your jaw!
