XBLA Wednesdays continue with PGR3 and poker for free

OK I promise that will be the first and last rhyming headline.

Microsoft announced yesterday some new details about the future of XBLA Wednesdays including:

  • Texas Hold-em will be released Aug. 23 and will be free for the first 48 hours.
  • 4 Cloning Clyde picture packs @ 100 points each are available today.
  • A PGR3 themed deck for UNO will be available later today for 100 points.
  • Time Pilot will be available August 30th for 400 points.
  • Scramble will be available September 6th for 400 pointsMajor.

Nelson later updated the free poker info with this:

I don't know about you, but I'm interested to see what gameplay changes the PGR3 Deck will bring as Microsoft has stated in the past that there won't be any UNO Decks that are just a rebranding, that all decks will bring gameplay changes in line with the theme itself. Don't know how you would play racing UNO or Kudos UNO, but for 100 points, I'm willing to try.

UPDATE: it seems that Microsoft has removed all references to the UNO PG3 Theme pack, guess were not getting it today.

very nice.  free poker after all and 2 more solid release dates.  and that pgr3 uno deck could be the first piece of add-on content that i buy for an arcade game.

i'm at work and don't feel like doing a lot of searching around or anything...can anyone briefly explain what kind of game scramble is?

Scramble
Scramble is the game with a spaceship equipped with a firing weapon and bombs, moving through a narrow tunnel. - Considered a multi-level shoot 'em up.

This announcement..
I am grateful that we even received an announcement in the first place, but a bit underwhelmed.

Cloning Clyde picture packs are cool, but are very limited.

Time Pilot and Scramble, two Konami games, two repetitive games, and simply is not the Lumines Live!, Hoopworld, Roboblitz, I was looking/hoping for.

As for the PGR3 Theme Deck, I like that, and will purchase it. The question is, how much replayablity will that bring to the table?

I am excited for Texas Hold 'Em, though. Gotta admit that.

Is Scramble the one where
Is Scramble the one where you use 4 buttons to shoot in 4 directions?  I seem to remember that from the arcades way back when, but I may be thinking of a different game.  Not sure if I ever played it though.

No, I don't think so.

This one, I think you can only shoot forward. You may be thinking of Time Pilot.. maybe.

Hmm, well that arcade

Hmm, well that arcade cabinet doesn't appear to have the button layout to be the game I was thinking of.

The graphics look similar, though.  In this other game you couldn't rotate your ship like Time Pilot, but there were 4 buttons for a front gun, rear, up, and down.  You could just hammer them all and shoot in 4 directions at once.

Darn, now I'm curious what the heck game was I thinking of??  Undecided

I bet Lumines hits Sept 13.  This is pretty much the same list we saw before, just pushed back a week.

I'd take Lumines Live over this whole list, but hey one of them's free and the other 2 are potentially fun retro classics.

I had to create an account just so I could post this, heh.The 4-way shooting game discussed above is Vanguard:http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=V&game_id=10293  Scramble is a scrolling tunnel shooter too, but only allows you to shoot directly forward, and drop arcing bombs downward.(doh, can't finda way to do linebreaks on this darn thing, FUGLY)

Addicting
I thnk this poker game could be fairly addicting. The persistent bankroll and the fact that you have to build up a certain bankroll to enter the high stake games. Cool.

They've said all along that they can't guarantee they'll have a new game ready every week.  I think it's cool they released something since they knew they weren't going to have a game available.
