The hottest topic regarding the Xbox Live Arcade these days involves the comments made by Metanet Software developers (the minds behind the game N+) during an interview with Gamasutra. During the interview, they would go on to say that a good portion of the games on the Xbox Live Arcade are crap. Metanet didn't hold back as they verbally ripped Microsoft and the Arcade a new one. The comments, of course, didn't go unnoticed. It didn't take long before Metanet started to defend their comments said during the interview by posting a long statement on their official site.
Simply put, they stand by what they said.
Today, Adam Boyes over at the Capcom Community Blog defended Microsoft and the Xbox Live Arcade in a posting that gives their take on the situation. Well... defended to a point. He didn't go on a verbal assault and dish out his own "shitstorm", but he provided some suggestions that could made the Arcade a much better place. He agrees that most content on the XBLA and Marketplace isn't very good, and that only certain portion of titles are actually worth being up. Boyes merely suggests that you need to do a little research before making a purchase and that what might suck to someone can be gold to another.
To say that XBLA is ‘more like retail’ then it was originally planned to be is quite misguided. There’s indefinite shelf space (or else I’m sure Space Giraffe would have been taken down), and that’s the beauty of digital distribution.
I think the fundamental issue is not that most of the games are “utter $&*%,” but that the good games are hard to find. In the retail world, you rely on word of mouth, advertising, and reviews to find out about good games.
His suggestion? Make a better system for sorting games.

Why don't they just allow those who buy the XBLA games to give the game a "rep" like we give other gamers? You could then sort on the 5 star scale or something.

So dudes that make a game where you're a stick figure (a game which I personally think sucks), say that pretty much all of the games on there are crap? Pot calling kettle black here....

I think the real issue is profits.
Terrible games making profits while some good games don't.
if it's true that miscosoft takes 60% of all money made, i'd be pissed too.

But if a 'terrible' game makes profits, it can't be terrible in some peoples eyes if they bought it, can it? I doubt a majority of the XBLA players just buy random games without trying them out first....

I've only done that a couple of times

Wow, I am getting old!
My first read through of this must have been before any coffee. It's been modified to be a little more readable. :)
Thanks for the catch!
