How do you get codes for XBLA games anyway?

How do you get codes for XBLA games? I know some are bundled with accessories and such, but what about games like age of booty? Do the press get them when a new game is released or something?

I've always wondered how people can "trade" codes.

Codes are usually handed out

Codes are usually handed out on contests. If you ever win a website's XBLA giveaway contest (i.e. Xbox360Fanboy), they will give you a redeemable code as a prize.

I also read something, some time ago, that some US stores had cards with redeemable codes, but I could never confirm it, nor do I know if they're still available.

Also there's MS reps like Major Nelson, who on their websites will post codes for full games, but they're snatched up within a minute usually because of people with USB keyboards.
