To some this will come as surprising. To others it won't. It has been confirmed that there will be no new release on the Xbox Live Arcade this week. It appears that the vast majority of Xbox 360 owners will be too busy playing some title called Grand Theft Auto IV. We'll see what next Wednesday brings instead.

19 million xbox360 consoles have been sold out there (as of the last NPD #s). If this game sells 9.5 million (50% + 1) and they start playing right away, then sure, it will be the majority. Halo3 had only sold about 8 million copies by January, after being out just over 3 months. Sure it sold half of that in the first day or two, but c'mon, the hyperbole is a bit much.
Many of us don't play either series. There was an excellent opportunity to "counter-program" here with something lighter and more family friendly - certainly something not rated 'M'.

I definately agree that MS missed an opportunity here. I think that either of Rummy or Sodoku would have been perfect games to release this week. Neither game is really going after the same audience that GTA is, and as an added benifit, those who would have enjoyed the games could have done so without playing against people who picked up the game just to get the achievements as fast as possible.
