Lode Runner will be the XBLA Deal of the Week, just 800 Microsoft Points for Xbox LIVE Gold Members beginning Monday, September 14th through to Sunday, September 20th.
As recent as just this past weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo at booth #3002 in the North Hall of the Washington State Convention Center, XBLArcade.com had a chance to talk with Scott Pelland, the long-time managing editor of Nintendo Power magazine, that now shares his insights and creative talents as an independent consultant. He even teamed up with Tozai Games to help with the launch and marketing of Lode Runner for the Xbox LIVE Arcade.
As many of you probably know, Lode Runner's launch in late April of this year was negatively impacted by a mistake that Microsoft made in first posting the game on the dashboard at 800 Microsoft points instead of the 1200 Microsoft Point it was originally supposed to be set for. “The initial euphoria for the lower-than-promised price turned into a vicious backlash against the game when Microsoft jacked up the price just eight hours later without any sort of explanation,” said Scott Pelland about the game’s initial launch onto the Xbox LIVE Arcade.
LucasArts announced on September 11, 2009 that Lucidity, a new game under development from the LucasArts team that re-imagined The Secret of Monkey Island®. Set for release on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC via digital download on October 7th, Lucidity is an addictive puzzle-like platformer set in the surreal dreamscapes of a little girl named Sofi.
In Lucidity, players take a trip into the imagination of Sofi, a young girl who is filled with a persistent desire to explore new worlds and overcome all obstacles in her way. In this challenging puzzle platform game, players are tasked with keeping Sofi safe as she drifts deeper into the strange new world of her dreams. Through quick reaction and placement of randomly generated puzzle pieces, players must create a path through beautifully detailed dreamscapes to keep Sofi in perpetual motion and deliver her to safety.
"Lucidity comes from our effort at LucasArts to form several small internal development teams and give them the creative freedom to make games that surprise, amaze and inspire," said LucasArts President Darrell Rodriguez. "The re-imagining of The Secret of Monkey Island and the development of the all-new Lucidity are just the beginning of this effort."
A gameplay trailer debut on GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley this past Thursday on Spike TV and as you can see in the video below, it's sort of a puzzle platformer that has you manipulating objects in the environment in order to help Sofi (who's moving of her own free will, Lemmings-style) get from one side of the screen to the other.

DID WE MENTION FREE STUFF?
One of the more exciting booths at the 2009 Penny Arcade Expo was over at the Hothead Games area where we seen Morgan Webb of G4’s X-Play interviewing this year’s PAX keynote speaker Ron Gilbert about his new game DeathSpank. Ron’s storied experience in the video game industry, coupled with his status as an adventure game pioneer and legend, made him the perfect choice to address the tens of thousands of PAX attendees.
DeathSpank is being developed by indie developer and publisher Hothead Games and created by Ron Gilbert of LucasArts adventure game fame. DeathSpank will bring to life the hilarious adventures of the game’s unusual hero. The unique art style uses 2D elements in a 3D world and boasts that you will roam the world without ever encountering a load screen.
Described by top scientists as Monkey Island meets Diablo, DeathSpank's gameplay is divided between uncovering the epic story via conversations, solving complex puzzles, equipping your character with over 100 different types of weapons and armor to maximize his dispensing of justice, not to mention his charming good looks, plus battling just about anything that moves. As DeathSpank vanquishes evil and heroes the downtrodden, he will collect loot, level up, collect loot, acquire new abilities and of course, collect more loot.
It's been 10 long years since South Park has made a video game, but XBLArcade.com is happy to announce that South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play! will launch exclusively on Xbox Live on October 7 to coincide with the premier of the new season of South Park on Comedy Central that very same day!
We got a chance to give the upcoming South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play! at the Xbox 360 booth at PAX 09 with an Xbox representative. In fact, we played it a few times just because we’re big fans of those potty-mouthed kids.
You get to play as Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Cartman; but you can unlock and play up to fifteen of your favorite South Park characters such as Timmy. All of which you can switch in-between in mid game. This way you can jump from one side of the screen to the other in order to lend support to your towers by throwing snowballs. But you can only have four on the screen at any one time. That includes on Xbox LIVE or Local gameplay.
You and a friend can play co-op on your couch at home while also playing with two other people over Xbox LIVE. Together you can take on Crusty Hippies, Mad Cows, Ginger Kids, Old People, and more over 11 campaigns and 5 challenge levels.
